We recently visited Kalbarri and tried a small section of this 8km (one-way) trail between the Natural Bridge (south) and Eagles Gorge (north) lookout points along the Kalbarri Coast, passing by Shell House and Grandstand viewpoints along the way. Not sure about doing the full trail unless you have two vehicles or can arrange pickup at one end or the other. The trail is mostly flat but covers quite a distance so be mindful of heat and weather conditions. We started at Natural Bridge and walked up to just over 2km up the trail before circling back, taking in lovely scenery, spotting kangaroos, feral goats, some interesting birdlife and quite a few whales breaching offshore. Some of the trail is natural while the section closest to the Natural Bridge carpark area is a boardwalk.

Pristine elevated coastal clifftop trail along the Indian Ocean. Located within Kalbarri National Park. Park fees required to enter with vehicle. Lookout platforms along the trail. Trail is clearly marked with trail markers. Trail followers the cliff-edge. Wildflowers in spring. Extreme heat and flies in summer. Trail is predominantly uneven rocks. Need healthy ankles. Sight whales during migration season. Kangaroos and other smaller wildlife along the trail. Modern national park standard toilets, sealed roads and carparks. Very quiet and little-used trail.

The map pin is not at the exact place, maybe because GPS doesn't work here. I strongly recommend downloading an offline map before visiting this area. When you arrive at the marked place on the map just follow the signs for "Island Rock". When you arrive there; you will find a lookout point and a way to join the "Bigurda Trail". It's your choice to take the walk at "Bigurda Trail" or you may visit the next nearby point "Natural Bridge" by car.

We did Eagle Gorge to Grandstand between 0930-1200 on 7 July 2024. We saw at least 30 whales migrating north, there was so much whale activity, it was amazing! A lot of the trail is close to the cliff face, the views were spectacular! Fairly easy walk, uneven terrain. It was windy on that day.

We split our group into 2. The other group got dropped off and hiked north from Grandstand. We drive up to Eagle Gorge and hiked south. We passed our key to the other group when we crossed along the trail and they drove our our car from Eagle Gorge back to Grandstand to meet us so that we didn’t have to double back to...
