One early in the morning I started my journey toward this suburb. After four hours journey to see this historical place i stopped to see few beautiful spots. I found this area historically rich and I also found both waterwheel and lighthouse very beautiful!

Hope to buy a house in this area and buy a small aircraft to see it from sky!

Thanks Drkabouchudnewala

Right near the Leeuwin lighthouse, this waterwheel was used to supply water to the lighthouse in the 1890's. There is a walk trail leading from here to skippy rock. This is also the starting point for the cape to cape trail. The water wheel itself isn’t much to look but still very cool and water was running over it. There is a plaque about the history and was a lovely spot with a great little snorkeling spot / rock pool exploring round the corner for the little ones. Also toilets near the car park. Parking at car park was limited but most people didn’t stay long. Also the lighthouse is just round the...

If you are down this way make sure you check it out. Frozen in time. The view of the surrounds are really special. The wheel itself tells of the ingenuity of early settlers, the ravages of time and will to survive. When you think how easy it is to get here now and how hard it would have been for the people who came here to a land some contrasted with their ild world. Like most of these histories I always wonder what the original inhabitants made of these engineering works, the impact it had on them and...

If for some reason you skipped the lighthouse tour, it's still a good idea to make a stop by the water wheel, not just to check out the wheel itself but to take a stroll around the rocks and make some friends with a few crabs. The wheel's been around since the dawn of civilisation in this area, and what is left of its calcified remains doesn't look much of a wheel but it did provide freshwater for the lighthouse keepers back in the 1890s, so there's a bit of history here.
