A fantastic park.||Easy booking and lovely reception.||Boom gated so quite safe.||Our cabin overlooked the road to the artesian hot baths so we had a parade of bathers.||The cabin was comfortable and clean with parking at the door. Small balcony with table and two chairs.||Large comfortable bed, good kitchen and good size fridge. Smallish bathroom but good enough. Excellent shower.||Air conditioner, small heater and extra blankets.||Good space for unpacking if you are staying longer.||Park has opal fossicking area, heated swimming pool, the usual laundry, ablutions and kitchen facilities.||It’s a dog friendly park with an off leash area. There you will see an unusual dome in the field there also, this is a mini telescope / observatory to see the stars. I’m unsure how you go about viewing, I’d ask at the office, we weren’t there long enough and only discovered it on leaving.||The park is close to town but if you want to walk it’s a good hike. Apparently if you dine at the bowling club, they will pick you up and deliver you back.||Of course, there is a multitude of Opal shops to tempt you to open the wallet. We just love the Black Opal found here. We found the friendly staff at the Opal Cave and their...
Read moreWe stayed for 3 days at Big4 Opal Park at Lightning Ridge and were a bit sad when we had to leave. We stayed in many different caravan parks during our 4 weeks in NSW and this park was the best we stayed in by far. The layout of each site is well defined with plenty of room for the biggest van, annex and towing vehicle. Amenities were the cleanest and best layed out that we came across. The pool area and camp kitchens were well appointed, clean and well equipped with all cooking aids and television. The grass around the camp kitchen and clothes lines was lush and soft to walk on which was great given the difficulty of growing grass in Lightning Ridge. The area around the cabins and caravan park is layed with a round Quartz gravel which is easy to walk on even in bare feet and would provide drainage in wet times. All the staff we met were courteous and helpful. Once you pull your caravan into place there is no confusion over what to do with your gray water with each site having a well defined drainage pipe for your gray water hose. There is a well defined dump point which is clean and tidy. This park is a credit to the management and staff and is a must stay place if you are visiting...
Read more"We don't need budget travellers" I am a disabled woman with cancer and limited income staying in a tent. I arrived late after office hours and ALL the tent sites were compacted like cement. If it was office hours I would have asked for a drill like the sign said. I was late because a roo jumped infront of my car totalling the bumper. I did not think someone would want to be bothered late so I pitched my tent on the grass as the earth made it impossible. In the morning a grumpy older gentlemen told me I should have called the emergency number. I told him I called the customer service number three times in the day with enquiries and they never answer, just send corporate messages, so I didn't think I had much chance. He was enraged and told me I might have damaged the sputters underground. I told him I couldn't physically put my peg the hard earth. He told me "we don't need you, we are full". They are essentially charging people $50 for a patch of dirt and a power point, making it almost impossible for middle class and working class people to travel anyway. Their ableist and classiest attitude is appalling. I encourage anyone with social conscience to avoid this place because this is...
