Magical Rainforest walk. There’s a lower carpark and an upper one for the overflow. We parked in the upper one and had to walk down to the trailhead. If you go to Cruickshank Lookout first its super mild path with a skinny lookout. This can be its own walk and if someone doesn’t get on a trail often, this may be enough for them. If from Cruickshank Lookout you want to continue on the Circuit you’ll see a set of very steep stairs just outside of the metal walkway. Take those down. Be careful if you have bad knees and hold on to the rope. At some points on the stairs it was really challenging to walk and keep holding hands with my 3 year old simply due to the steepness and the very small steps. My husband ended up carrying the little guy all the way down. There are lots of benches covered in shade to sit on which also act as trail markers so you know how many more steps there are and/or the distance to the next spot or back to where you came from. The Edge Lookout took us more than 5 minutes return despite that time being on the sign. Its a gravel path with some steeper inclines so be mindful of keeping smaller steps. The lookout is similar to Cruickshank with a lower view into the canyon closer to the river. Now the hike back up from The Edge to the parking lot was a challenge. We had to stop several times as it can be pretty steep and by then the little ones were tired. It’s beautiful though, just take your time. Loved visiting Leven Canyon and the drive out there was gorgeous too. :)

At Ulverstone you’ll be in the most convenient spot to reach one of North West Tasmania’s most striking natural sights. Strangely, Leven Canyon is relatively unheralded despite its splendour, and despite being just half an hour inland from the town. Here the Leven River courses through limestone cliffs dropping 300 metres. You can walk to two lookouts on an easy, 1.2-kilometre track, although there’s a steep stairway between the two vantage points if you don’t want to retrace your steps. Any climbing will be recompensed with staggering views of the canyon, the steep and densely wooded surrounding slopes and the outline of Black Bluff to the south-west.

First of all, search for "Leven canyon picnic area" for the right location. It's an amazing walk, just about 45 minutes or less return trip. Go to cruickshanks lookout first so you would be going down the forest stairs, if you do the other way you would be going up the stairs... Either way you will have to go back up but I think going down the stairs is much easier! View is amazing. Lots of flying bugs during summer so bring an insect repellant along.
