Burkes Lookout, nestled in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges, is an extraordinary vantage point that offers one of the most captivating views of Melbourne’s CBD. As you stand on the lookout, the cityscape stretches out before you, shrouded in a delicate mist, giving it an almost ethereal quality. The distant skyscrapers rise from the horizon like sentinels, their forms softened by the haze, creating a mesmerizing silhouette against the sky.

The journey to Burkes Lookout is itself a delight, winding through lush, towering forests that seem to whisper the secrets of the ages. The cool, crisp air invigorates your senses, making the experience of reaching the lookout even more rewarding. Once you arrive, the panoramic view that greets you is nothing short of breathtaking. On clear days, the vista extends endlessly, with the city’s structures standing in sharp contrast to the natural surroundings.

The lookout is a perfect spot for photography, meditation, or simply soaking in the serene atmosphere. Whether you visit at sunrise, when the city is bathed in the soft glow of dawn, or at dusk, when the skyline is silhouetted against a vibrant sunset, Burkes Lookout offers a unique perspective on Melbourne, blending the urban with the natural in a way that few places can.

In essence, Burkes Lookout is not just a viewpoint; it is a place where you can connect with nature, find peace, and appreciate the grandeur of both the city and the landscape that surrounds it. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the Dandenong Ranges in all...

Absolutely incredible view. This is one of very few national parks in the Dandenong Ranges with a clear view of the landscape including the city. Very sad to hear that 18 people died in a plane crash here in the 1930’s. I was extremely lucky to get parking. There is extremely limited parking. I recommend coming very early to avoid the chance of being unable to find parking. Unfortunately, like as mentioned in some other reviews, there is a significant littering problem, every path I hiked had quite a bit of rubbish scattered over the landscape. It’s very unfortunate that tourists/visitors feel like they can dump non-biodegradable rubbish into this beautiful landscape. Maybe adequate signage could help? If you live in Melbourne or are visiting here, there is no question you should come here, it’s absolutely stunning, even though there is a littering problem as well as...

One of the best look outs in Melbourne. We went on Valentine’s Day to watch the sunset so it was quite busy but even so there were so many little nooks for people to sit and even a viewing platform covered in fake grass which was perfect for a picnic set up.

The view itself is gorgeous with two little parking spots making it a short walk to the look out. You can see just about every part of Melbourne from this spot including the beach in the distance, and even the city skyline far off beyond the clouds. Its great for people of all ages, however the short walk may make it less accessible for some, and I would recommend keeping an eye on kids if you’re bringing them due to the cliff rocks being slightly unstable.

Take some snacks, drinks, a jumper in the cold months and a picnic blanket for the best free lookout spot in the suburbs...
