Beautiful morning hike with friends
We visited Camels Hump with friends for an early morning hike and absolutely loved it. We arrived around 8am and the carpark was already getting busy — a few early risers and even a running group were just finishing up as we started.
The weather was crisp and clear, sitting at around 6°C — absolutely beautiful but definitely chilly! I’d highly recommend dressing warmly and wearing gloves (my fingers were frozen, and I could barely tie my shoelaces – lesson learned!).
The hike itself is beginner-friendly. There are quite a few steps, but the trail is well maintained by Parks Victoria. Even with a few stops to take in the view or catch your breath, it’s very manageable. The effort is well worth it — the views from the top are stunning.
Parking: The carpark is unsealed with some large potholes and puddles, so take care driving in — especially after wet weather. That said, there was plenty of space when we arrived.
We were also greeted by beautiful bush surroundings and birdlife. The wind picked up while we were at the top, and the sound of the trees cracking in the breeze was eerie but incredible — something I’ve never experienced before.
Overall, a wonderful short hike that’s well worth the trip. A great way to start...

We were looking for the closest picnic grounds, there were 2 picnic grounds. We followed the direction to the closest one which so happened to be in the same direction as the other.
When we got to the first repeater sign it said one picnic grounds to the left and one to the right. Neither sign had distances on them so we didnt know which one was closer. We took a guess and we guessed wrong.
We ended up having a picnic on the side of the track. Which was lovely at first. Until I found leeches on my leg.
So I suggest parks victoria or the council either do something about the leeches (if environmentally ok ofcourse) and also add distances on the signs throughout the...
Read moreWow such a beautiful gorgeous place. We had the best day exploring and walking and taking in the stunning sights of nature. There are easier and harder tracks. Stunning views. Even beautiful hollow trees, wombat holes and so much nature to connect with and observe. This wasn't busy so yes you will come across people but definitely can have a lot of quiet time alone. I was born in Melbourne.... and am shocked why I have never been here before. I'll definitely be back again soon. Dogs are allowed on a leash I noticed. Just watch your step of potential packages not picked up and collected. This is a beautiful spot that is close to beautiful places to go...
