Incredible and special place. At first glance, you may think there's not much to see. But after a bit of education at the visitor centre and a sunset tour, the magic is revealed. The visitor centre has tons of information and while not always manned, is a valuable source of local info. The tour was the highlight for our trip. Our guide was Lance and he was a very sweet, knowledgeable and patient man. We appreciated him sharing his knowledge and he looked after us so well. What a legend. Thanks Lance 😊 He told us the onsite rangers are all required to be descendants of the 3 local tribal groups, the Muthi Muthi, Paakantji and Ngyiampaa. This should be the case with all parks and it was great to see it in action here.
We stayed at Main Campground and each site was well spaced out, most with shade and water (boil before drinking) plus fire cooking facilities and even table and chairs! A short walk to clean longdrops. The showers and toilets across the board are immaculate thanks to Lance and the rest of the team. Very well worth a visit (bring a fly...
Read moreGreat place to visit. You must add to your bucket list. I give this a 13 out of 10. Don't take an external tour. Drive there yourself and do the 8am tour with the Parks & Wildlife guide and get the best value tour you'll ever get. It takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours for the tour. Don't do it yourself as the guide takes you places you can't go on your own and tells you things you'll never find out on your own. After the official tour he tells you where the next best views and you are now knowledgeable to do that on your own. The drive is between 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Mildura. We left at 6.15am and got there at 7.50am. There is about 80km of reasonable dirt and a total of 110 km. From Mildura turn onto the Arumpo Rd at Mourquong and go straight there. There is only the one tour a day to beat the heat. The other tour companies get you there after 10am and have you out there in the heat.
Have a great day. Sorry photos still in the...
Read moreVisited with my family including 2 kids. The displays were engaging but mostly static. The information focuses on natural history, ecology and sheep farming. There is a small display of boomerangs etc. The lack of Traditional Owner content on such an important site is startling. There is also a limited number of animals covered. We wanted to know the name of the birds at our camp-site. They were not featured in the display. The building was unmanned each time we visited. The meeting place behind the building has a recreation of the foot prints which are fun and fascinating. There are free hot showers open 24 /7. They are clean and practical. They were very welcome after each walk due to the heat and fine sand. There are also free BBQs and picnic shelters with views over the dry lake bed. Highly recommend that you book a tour to access the lunette " China wall" area...
