Visited here with family and some friends from Adelaide. We have 2 kids 3 and under and my niece and nephew ages 5 and 8. If you choose to stay for a while there is a dedicated basket of outside toys for them to play with and lots of beautiful grassed areas to play on. There is also a toy box inside for younger kids to. Family friendly, tick. Inside is a generous area to stand and a large long bar to accommodate a busy tasting session. Lots of local reading material and a nice selection of local nibbles, glasses and other things to purchase. A beautiful little deck overlooking the dam is attached. Cheese platters were well presented with quality ingredients and a lovely way to pass a couple hours sitting outside. Service from staff was top notch, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. As for the wine, I don't drink the stuff, but everyone I went with enjoyed a few glasses with the platter whilst there and I think in total or group went away with a couple dozen bottles at least. Overall, well worth a stop or taking a group and spending a couple hours relaxing on the lawn of in the assignment rose gardens.

Visited Balnaves with my husband, baby and parents travelling from Adelaide. Amazing location, peaceful, and we were welcomed as soon as we arrived. A big shout out to Imogen, she was excellent and made our experience so enjoyable. Her knowledge of the wines made it such a great tasting. She took photos for us without asking and sorted out a delicious cheese platter within minutes! Cannot fault the wine each tasting was delicious but Imogen and her service is what made this the best winery we visited in Coonawarra! Out of 8 wineries, thank you Imogen.

A really nice cellar door. We were greeted at the door and it was not busy. Had a very nice wine tasting and were happy to pay the $5 per person tasting charge as the proceeds go to good charities. We tried most wines with the standout wine being the 2015 Cabernet Merlot and the 2020 Cab Sav gets an honorable mention (although it is still young and can lay down for a while more). The Sparkling Cab Sav divided opinion 50-50. On a nicer warmer day sitting outside on the deck looking over the lake would have been lovely.

Thank you, Imogen for the best winery experience. Your passion and knowledge of the wines and the region is evident and made our tasting (and the kids' first winery) memorable. An absolute must visit cellar door in Coonawarra! Our entire experience was so pleasant. We love premium quality reds and Balnaves did not disappointment. Their Cab Savs were beautiful and to our surprise we loved their Chardonnay as well. If you like your cab savs then definitely try the Tally! They even had a goodies bag for the kids which had chocolate, chips, juice box and an activity book...
