Recently on a trip to WA's stunning south west region we visited 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘆 & 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆. What a delightful spot!

Happs is a family owned, award winning winery located in Dunsborough and displayed amongst lush beautiful gardens.

A grand display of over 40 hand crafted wines to taste in an outdoor setting overlooking the grounds - a self-serve outdoor cellar door experience - unlike any other winery we have previously visited.

The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and gave you space to leisurely enjoy your wine tastings.

Commonage Pottery and Art Gallery is a  working studio within Happs’ winery, which includes pottery, paintings, sculptures and stunning jewellery all handcrafted by local artists. Pottery classes are available to visitors.

Happs also offer a variety of gourmet foods from local suppliers, a great idea if you want to grab a bottle and create your own picnic hamper to share. They will even supply you with a picnic basket, rug and serving board.

Delicious wines and stunning venue - what's not to...

Visited Happs Wines and Commonage Pottery yesterday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed the experience . On arrival, the excellent signage welcomed and directed us easily to the respective areas The pottery and art displayed in the gallery was exceptional. We arrived a little late in the day to catch the resident potter at work. We were greeted in the "self-serving" wine tasting area, overlooking the beautiful gardens and winery by Karen, the lovely and friendly tasting host of the day who helped us with any questions we had about this unique experience. Even in the process of "packing up" for the day, Karen maintained her friendly and engaging manner as other late comers arrived. Our Kelpie, Bella had the best hour and a half of her day, rolling on the beautiful lawns, smelling her way through the lovely gardens and being entertained by the children of our fellow winetasters. Seriously, a lovely and unique experience - not to be missed. And,did I forget to mention, the wines are definitely worth the visit...

What an amazing experience! My partner and I came for the lovely pottery, and were blown away by the wine. After a lovely meander through the cosy rooms displaying all the gorgeous pottery, we were directed through to the win tasting set up outside and absolutely can't speak highly enough of the experience.

Happs has a self-serve set up like I've never seen, with all of their extensive wines arranges on shelving and tapped. You're provided a (generously sized) wine glass, given the rundown on how everything works, and off you go! Convenient little QR codes next to every bottle give you a description of what you're sampling, and you can take your time only trying what you want to (and as much of it as you like) at your own pace! All with a view of the gorgeous sprawling gardens carefully and lovingly maintained by the owners.

I will be recommending this place for anyone travelling down...

Such beautiful pottery and gardens (and wine!). We had a such a special experience exploring the pottery and being guided and cared for by Japneet who was so knowledgeable and invested in ensuring we found pieces that truly resonated with us and our intention for their use. It was also really special to meet the potter Gary Hambleton, who is the artist of the pieces we were really drawn to. Thank you Japneet for sharing your time and yourself with us, we were truly touched and are so happy with our purchases 🙏😀 and thank you for sharing the history and journey of Commonage pottery, its wonderful to see how you have worked towards helping create such a special space. We look forward to visiting again the next time we come down, and hopefully we might also be able to join a pottery class too!

A visit to Happs Wines is a throwback to the days when down to earth service and a genuine welcome were the norm. The owners bucked the (disappointing) trend and refused to introduce a tasting fee. I reckon everyone should buy a bottle from them for this reason alone. It’s how it should be. Their unique tasting experience is brilliant. You can try as many wines as you like, though it is suggested you “plan your journey.” A tasting at Happs is an experiential, enjoyable affair which can be completed at your own pace and timing. It’s no wonder the tasting area is always full, as opposed to other wineries. For me this is the best winery in the South West. They’ve stayed true to their values and offer a unique tasting experience and an unrivalled level of genuine hospitality.

The only SELF-SERVE NO-FEE Winery!!! This is a great winery when it comes to location and experience. Kids and animals can play while you enjoy a few drinks. There is no tasting fee. You can try any wine out of 42 different wines. At the beginning you'll get a glass and the system explained and off you go. BUT: 42 wines are too much of a selection, and there none is really a great wine. I also found that most wines a far above the recommended temperature because there are outside on a shelf simply in some iced water. I recommend it highly for the experience and lovely view but not f you are a wine connoisseur.
