Reef Sleep experience - Couldn't be happier despite some unexpected circumstances.

We ended up being much later than expected due to an engine failure on one of the boats that brought us out to the islands. We ended up need to take a few hours to head back to Airlie on another boat, then be taken directly to reef world. On the ride back to Airlie, we were given free snacks and alcohol and the staff was as accommodating as they could be. Once we were back on the mainland, we were greeted with mimosas and a private seating section while we waited for our boat. In that section, we were fed snacks from the bar, free of charge. And the service did not stop from there; the ride to reef world was just as comfortable. Once we were there, due to the later entrance, we were allowed to snorkel a bit later than normal to make up for lost time. At this time, it was only reef sleepers on board so the reef was virtually empty.

The service on board was amazing; every worker was polite and ready to accommodate. As well, the chef was amazing: we were incredibly well fed with gourmet meals nearly the entire time we were on board.

Couldn't be happier with my Reef...

I'm specifically reviewing the overnight stay 'ReefSleep' experience. We were underwhelmed by the reality when compared to the hype. The food want as good as expected - serving a medium plus steak wasn't what I'd expect on a reef experience although there was ample food on offer. The staff had some mediocre members that seem to tire on their rotation. I missed a good night sleep and during those hours hearing the poorly placed generator that ran allnight wasn't up to expectations. Obviously the exhaust placement was a design error by a huge corporate travel operator - something that a boutique operator wouldn't allow. The cruise out was on a great boat, although our day was calm I'm sure it would handle angry seas well. A piece of advice for reef travellers is to watch the tide for your booking. At high tide the reef is 4.5 metres down - youl not see much on a snorkelling tour. Your visit that coincides with a low tide in the middle of the day will give you reef...

To start with let me just go.... oh my gosh! Ok so that was absolutely epic, I'm sitting on the transfer boat as I write this so the experience is still fresh. I will say first and foremost pick the time of the year you go. If it's Winter be prepared to get cold. If it's Summer you will get hot, but this is about as close to the Reef as you can get. The outermost section called Hardy Reef was right there. You can literally snorkel over it! The fish life was out of this world. Far out! Then comes the Reef Sleep aspect. The hosts were all amazing and so kind. Nothing was too much for them, and incase you are wondering about the food, well let me tell you that it was exceptional. The onboard chef was so good. Every one loved the meals. It was a rather amazing way to finish the first day, add in a few beverages and it just tops it all off.

I can no recommend this experience enough. It was fantastic and I will be coming back again to try a different time...
