Super helpful team.

I booked a day trip over to Keppel and a glassbottom boat tour with Freedom Fast Cats, not wanting to commit the kids to a 5 hour boat cruise in what was predicted to be fairly poor weather.

The weather WAS pretty poor and there was not really anything to actually do on the island (it was raining and too windy for kayaks that day and it turns out that if you aren't doing a water sport there is really not much to do on the Island in June). The ferry had been rough ride over to the Island. We had wandered past the derelict old resort, then back to the new resort for icecream. The kids managed to waste a bit of time trying to crack a couple of coconuts, while we were waiting for the scheduled glassbottom boat ride.

We were damp and bored. Kids were nagging to go snorkelling but it didn't seem like it was an option I could now take up, having signed us onto a different tour. The day was turning into a complete bust. I was actually wondering if there was a way to get off the Island early.

Then a Freedom Fast Cats Ferry turned up, disembarking a tour group to go on the glassbottom boat ride - and they were scheduled to get back on the boat and go snorkelling next. This was my chance. I gave them a call.

The team were really accommodating in slotting us onto the snorkelling tour mid-tour. We did the glassbottom boat ride then joined the crowd hopping onto the large ferry for lunch and snorkelling. We were super fortunate - obviously the tour wasn't completely booked out and there was enough catering available for 4 extras not to be a problem.

It was worth every cent - and it really wasn't actually very much extra. The kids LOVED snorkelling. We were there for what was, I think, the lowest tide for the year and the coral was nearly uncovered, so it was really close and the fish were pushed to the outer edges of the coral. It was overcast and the colours were not at their peak, but it was magnificent regardless.

In some respects Keppel was disappointing. It has a wreck of a resort sitting there being ugly. Were weren't there in peak season but we were there during school holidays and there really was nothing to do if the weather was poor (the kiosk off the beach recommended sitting back with a few tins, which is (a) not my thing; and (b) not appropriate with three kids). We were dropped on the beach and told to come back at 10 or 11am for the boat tour, with absolutely no idea of what was on the island and where so we didn't want to go too far and miss the scheduled tour.

What Freedom Fast Cats could do better is provide a map for their customers, that they can walk around with, which has a list of things to do and where on the Island. What they do well is having great staff.

I definitely recommend booking the Combo Cruise (we were there on the Monday) - or at least the Coral Lunch Cruise if you are not keen on getting wet and want something to do with your time. Just booking the glassbottom boat tour was a mistake. We would love to come back and do the Adventure...

I recently travelled with Freedom Fast Cats for the return trip from Great Keppel Island and overall had a good experience. I would give them four stars. The staff were friendly, professional and clearly experienced, which made the journey smooth and well organised.

On the way back, we had to first board a smaller boat before transferring to the larger ferry. It was a bit cramped on the smaller vessel, but it was only for a short ride and the crew handled the transfer efficiently. Once on the bigger boat, the trip was much more spacious and comfortable, with plenty of seating and great views over the water.

The timing was punctual and the whole process ran without major delays, which I appreciated. The boats were clean and well maintained, and the crew made sure everyone was safe and informed throughout the trip.

While the initial cramped transfer was not ideal, it did not ruin the experience. Freedom Fast Cats still provided a reliable and enjoyable service for getting to and from Great Keppel Island. I would happily travel with them again...

Sailed out on Easter Sat 2025, had a great time experienced the adventure package, spent some time on Keppal then moved onto the glass bottom boat then returned to the boat for a BBQ lunch which was lovley , after we sailed out to do some snorkling and Boomnetting. The crew were great the food was lovley the only thing about the food i saw quite alot of people including myself miss out on morning/afternoon tea , thats because alot of the kids on board were not be monitored on how much to take, no biscuits or fruit left even when you stood in the line, so i.would suggest maybe a crew member handing out the morning and afternoon tea we all pay alot of money so not been able to have a fair share is not the best, kids will be kids but learning to share would be good. otherwise all went...
