Very disappointed, while the wines are pretty good, if you dare raise any issue you were met with a 'justification' and that you are the only one; this from some staff and the GM directly. I politely raised certain matters directly rather than an online review and was appalled at the responses I received. From their accommodation where the sun beams into the bedroom at 5.30am and directly onto the bed (sorry no restful sleep-in), reason why is that curtains are too expensive and its only for a few weeks of the year??, to the simple request for a box of tissues, advised they were expensive. I was also advised it costs them money to run the accommodation so I got the impression I should be grateful they hosted me. The Spring Splendor event a good idea (been to a few at other wineries) and some good aspects but overall disappointing and unenjoyable, nor was I alone in my experience. Much more but won't waste anymore effort here. Again, as I said in my last email to the GM, not interested in your response as I...
Read moreWe stopped in to try the wines on the recommendation of our hotel. In addition to wine, they also have several gin offerings and a whiskey. After a short chat with Peter, the host, he shared a number of pours based on our tastes. All the wines here are good. The Calliope Shiraz and Durif are better yet and are solid entries into the premium space.
The selection of gins is rather fun. We liked the muscat gin with ginger ale as a refreshing hot weather drink.
Let's not leave out the fortified wines. Both the muscat and the topaque will not disappoint at whatever level matches your taste. Yet, both are distinctly different and true to their style of production. The frontignac is truly something different and carried off the depth and carry of a rare without the cloying raisin-iness. Make sure to have a taste of this one if you...
Read moreThe accommodation at Buller Wines is superb. Checking in and out is very easy and the location is fantastic. Close enough to Rutherglen but far enough away to enjoy peace and quiet. The views from the rooms are fantastic - straight out onto the vineyard. The room itself is very comfortable with sufficient appliances in the kitchenette (microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine and mini bar fridge). It gets pretty cold in the area at night, but the split system and floor heating in the bathroom work very well to ensure you stay warm.
Further, all the wines they produce are already in the room available for purchase, which is great so if you arrive after the cellar door is closed, you have the wines available to you. We had a really great stay and would highly recommend this accommodation to stay in the local area. We hope to...
