Stunning place. We frequent this spot every time we're in Denmark. The menu is limited and quite 'gourmet' (so don't expect a burger or spag bol), however the food is excellent quality & presentation & mostly made on site. Sometimes they have a home-made pot pie on the specials menu which is the closest to standard meal you might get; & it is delicious! Food aside the setting is the main reason you should visit. They have seating undercover or outside amongst the gardens - both table & chairs or picnic table options. We always take our dog/s who appreciate the grass under the tables. The birds are brilliant - aside from the water birds (ducks/grebes etc) this is one of the best places to get a close-up of many of WA's tiny songbirds (inc. splendid & red-wing fairy wrens, scrubwrens etc), some so tame they will land on your table or dance around your feet looking for crumbs. Take a stroll along the lake if you feel like stretching your legs. There's parking right at the entrance to the main restaurant/cellar door, or once that fills up there's plenty more down by the newer building ('The Shed') only ~100m away. Once you turn onto Turner road it's all gravel but has always been good condition (a standard 2WD will have no troubles). I do wish they would expand their menu to offer some more standard options, but that isn't their intention. Their main offering is the wines (they are a winery!), vinofoods (condiments, chocolates etc) & body products that they produce. I'm not a wine drinker so I can't comment on their wines, however the setting alone is enough to keep me...

My fiancée and I came to the Lake House in October last year and really loved it so we were very much looking forward to visiting again on our trip this year. Knowing that it would no doubt be busy, we booked over a month in advance and got a table for two on Sunday 25/10/20 at 12:30.

Upon arriving we found we had been given a table pushed right up against the wall near the entrance with absolutely no view other that looking at people tasting wines through the window.

We asked if we could be moved and the waitress went to check if this was possible. It was at this point the person who originally showed us to our table came and asked for our order. (We hadn’t even been given a menu yet!!)

The other waitress returned and we were also given a menu. (Just one) and were asked to give our order right away. To which I responded that we would need to have some time to actually read it first.

We were also pointed to an available table out in the front and in the sun. This table was reserved at 3pm so were were told we would need to be out by 2:45pm. We were also told we would need to place our own order at the counter if we did not want to order immediately then.

Unfortunately the poor service really ruined the mood and we were left really disappointed after looking forward to visiting for so long.

Due to this we decided to leave and eat elsewhere as we did not want this to ruin the last day of our trip.

The setting was beautiful as always but unfortunately the service was just unbearable.

I hope this is taken on board...

I saw a dangerous approach to food safety that could end in tragedy here. Please for your safety consider eating somewhere else.

I had lunch here and at the end of it my friend who I was with purchased a bottle of white wine. On arriving home, a long drive away I noticed a dead spider floating in the unopened bottle. I am not an expert but the spider looked to be of a poisonous variety and the wine had gone cloudy.

I then drove all the way back. As soon as I approached the manager I was treated like an obnoxious inconvenience. They only offered to exchange the wine bottle, nothing complimentary was offered and I don't remember hearing any apology. They then said it was a normal thing. I am not joking about that, they said it was a normal part of bottling.

At this point I decided that I needed to keep the bottle to give to the health department or whichever department is associated with food safety here. Upon stating that the staff became somewhat threatening stating they had witnesses that I would not give them the bottle. It seemed they were trying to pressure me into giving it to them. Serving possible poison should never be considered normal behavior by a restaurant.

Please consider eating somewhere else. The service isn't just bad here, it is likely quite dangerous. I genuinely believe their slapdash attitude to the food safety could end in tragedy. Remember, they told me they consider serving wine with a dead spider in it to be a normal part of...

Disappointing Experience We visited Lake House Denmark as a family, drawn by the signage at the gate stating the kitchen closed at 4 PM. With my son hungry, we expected a proper meal, but upon arrival, we were told only coffee and cakes were available. This felt misleading and disappointing. A staff member kindly offered to prepare a cheese board, but it was overpriced for what we received. The wines were average at best, especially compared to nearby wineries like West Cape Howe and Singlefile, which provide far better value and experiences. We were also told that wine tasting would cost $10 per person. This was a major turn-off, especially since we had planned to purchase a couple of cartons but decided against it after feeling unwelcome. It was even more surprising to see other posts mentioning free wine tastings, leaving us with the unsettling impression that we might have been profiled based on our appearance. While the setting is undeniably beautiful, the overall experience was disappointing and failed to meet expectations.

What a Wonderful place to spend the day and have lunch with friends The Lake House restaurant In Shadforth Denmark is a little pearl nestled in beautiful bushland and overlooks a pretty lake in Shadforth. We had a sensational lunch which consisted of a massive tasting plate for 2 The plate included a brilliant selection of Quality foods like Marinated prawns, smoked salmon, chicken dipped in a cranberry sauce, tasty slices of ham with great mustard and pickle garnishes, a beautiful selection of cheeses and dips with an assortment of biscuits and fresh breads, hummus, olives, patsy quiche quince, lintels and so on The food was delicious and presented professionally The restaurant itself was a picture of perfection and the gardens picturesque displaying an awesome array of colour which only added to the wonderful atmosphere I certainly do recommend The Lake House to everyone who enjoys quality food in perfect surroundings and served by friendly efficient staff Cheers

Thought I would write a review to help out my fellow vegan travellers 🙂 Before coming here I couldn't really find any reviews on the vegan options that the menu says are available (apart from a 2019 post in a vegan group which said they were nice). The vegan options available as of April 2024 were the soup of the day and the dukka dish. Vegan-ising one of the platters wouldn't be worth it as you would need to take out so much. The chef said they could also do a veggie pattie with salad (for $28!) up for us but I didn't go with this option as it didn't seem like good value. The soup and dukka were very tasty and the bread made fresh. Just thought I would give a heads up to fellow vegans to let you know that the options are indeed very limited. Come here for the beautiful venue if you do intend a visit and be ready to settle for the soup of the day. Still giving 5 stars though as I still had a nice experience over all.
