Stunning place. We frequent this spot every time we're in Denmark. The menu is limited and quite 'gourmet' (so don't expect a burger or spag bol), however the food is excellent quality & presentation & mostly made on site. Sometimes they have a home-made pot pie on the specials menu which is the closest to standard meal you might get; & it is delicious! Food aside the setting is the main reason you should visit. They have seating undercover or outside amongst the gardens - both table & chairs or picnic table options. We always take our dog/s who appreciate the grass under the tables. The birds are brilliant - aside from the water birds (ducks/grebes etc) this is one of the best places to get a close-up of many of WA's tiny songbirds (inc. splendid & red-wing fairy wrens, scrubwrens etc), some so tame they will land on your table or dance around your feet looking for crumbs. Take a stroll along the lake if you feel like stretching your legs. There's parking right at the entrance to the main restaurant/cellar door, or once that fills up there's plenty more down by the newer building ('The Shed') only ~100m away. Once you turn onto Turner road it's all gravel but has always been good condition (a standard 2WD will have no troubles). I do wish they would expand their menu to offer some more standard options, but that isn't their intention. Their main offering is the wines (they are a winery!), vinofoods (condiments, chocolates etc) & body products that they produce. I'm not a wine drinker so I can't comment on their wines, however the setting alone is enough to keep me...
Read moreMy fiancée and I came to the Lake House in October last year and really loved it so we were very much looking forward to visiting again on our trip this year. Knowing that it would no doubt be busy, we booked over a month in advance and got a table for two on Sunday 25/10/20 at 12:30.
Upon arriving we found we had been given a table pushed right up against the wall near the entrance with absolutely no view other that looking at people tasting wines through the window.
We asked if we could be moved and the waitress went to check if this was possible. It was at this point the person who originally showed us to our table came and asked for our order. (We hadn’t even been given a menu yet!!)
The other waitress returned and we were also given a menu. (Just one) and were asked to give our order right away. To which I responded that we would need to have some time to actually read it first.
We were also pointed to an available table out in the front and in the sun. This table was reserved at 3pm so were were told we would need to be out by 2:45pm. We were also told we would need to place our own order at the counter if we did not want to order immediately then.
Unfortunately the poor service really ruined the mood and we were left really disappointed after looking forward to visiting for so long.
Due to this we decided to leave and eat elsewhere as we did not want this to ruin the last day of our trip.
The setting was beautiful as always but unfortunately the service was just unbearable.
I hope this is taken on board...
Read moreI saw a dangerous approach to food safety that could end in tragedy here. Please for your safety consider eating somewhere else.
I had lunch here and at the end of it my friend who I was with purchased a bottle of white wine. On arriving home, a long drive away I noticed a dead spider floating in the unopened bottle. I am not an expert but the spider looked to be of a poisonous variety and the wine had gone cloudy.
I then drove all the way back. As soon as I approached the manager I was treated like an obnoxious inconvenience. They only offered to exchange the wine bottle, nothing complimentary was offered and I don't remember hearing any apology. They then said it was a normal thing. I am not joking about that, they said it was a normal part of bottling.
At this point I decided that I needed to keep the bottle to give to the health department or whichever department is associated with food safety here. Upon stating that the staff became somewhat threatening stating they had witnesses that I would not give them the bottle. It seemed they were trying to pressure me into giving it to them. Serving possible poison should never be considered normal behavior by a restaurant.
Please consider eating somewhere else. The service isn't just bad here, it is likely quite dangerous. I genuinely believe their slapdash attitude to the food safety could end in tragedy. Remember, they told me they consider serving wine with a dead spider in it to be a normal part of...
