Sadly a very disappointing experience, or lack thereof I should say. I had planned to take my elderly grandmother here as she had always wanted to visit. I emailed with one of the staff via the email they have listed on their website in the week leading up to it, confirming they would be open. My has a lot of trouble leaving the house as she is very frail and it was a 40 minute drive to bring her here. We came all the way and she was so excited, just to find that they were closed. It did not list that it was closed online or anywhere. I did expect to possibly receive an email from the staff I had been speaking with via email to let me know they would actually be closed as I had been told otherwise, and had let them know that I would be attending, but I received no communication. This I would have been okay with, but when I called their phone number on arrival the woman I spoke to was very rude. I explained the situation and that they had not announced anywhere that they would be closed (must have been a last minute decision) and that I had travelled 40 minutes with my elderly grandmother to come visit. The woman did not care whatsoever, and seemed extremely bothered and irritated that I had called. No apology or anything. Extremely rude and annoyed tone. Completely ruined the day and we were so upset. If you had needed to close because of weather that is completely understandable, but you need to work on how you speak to potential customers/visitors and not be so...
Read moreDisclaimer: I didn't have to pay to go here as I went with work so I don't know if there are prices or anything. But the house itself is beautiful and there is a bathroom you can use (always important if travelling with kids!) and there is parking on Burns Bay Road.
There are little notes everywhere explaining the uses of various items and giving flavour text to the rooms. There are lovely gardens and you can look out over the river, or walk down a little forest path to the local park. That involves some steps though, which can be slippery so be careful.
There is also a room with lots of items reflecting Australian history, not just the history of the house. The house itself is also very nice just to be in and it's obvious that the caretakers are very passionate about not only history but sharing...
Read moreThis lovely house will always rate 5 stars for me! I made another visit last Sunday with my social group and again was given the most amazing tour and information of the house and the people that have lived in it. The gardens are lovely and you can walk right down to the water and across to a park and oval area for a picnic if you want to. They also can organise a delicious morning tea for group tours which is very inexpensive plus they have quite a few events happening during the year, just check out their website. This was my second visit in 6 months and highly recommend...
