New Nature-Based Playground at Wangal Reserve Wangal Reserve in Mortlake, characterised by its sandstone headland, small sandy beaches, and open grass areas has received a $1.7 million upgrade.
The idyllic peninsula located along the Parramatta River now has new pathways and picnic facilities, new sandstone access steps to the beach, a retrofitted wharf, indigenous artwork, bush tucker garden, and an educational gathering space.
A highlight also includes its new inclusive nature play area with swings, carousel, an adventure climbing structure, slides, and a flying fox for children to enjoy.
“This project has revitalised Wangal Reserve and provided an important recreation space for the community while maintaining the site’s rich heritage,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.
Inclusivity and accessibility are also at the forefront of the park’s new design.
