Overall it was a great experience, a few tweeks and could be even better.
Pros -5yo son loved being in charge of the heavy machinery, all whilst in a very safe controlled environment -lots of different "stations" so variety of things to do and move between -majority of the staff very friendly and helpful, especially for my younger one very clearly laid out and explained, safety was paramount, had shade sails for the sun (and rain). Really clever idea and honestly will definitely return.
Cons -google maps takes you to a weird area, with a bit of googling found the entry is near the entry to thunderbird park (which I assumed prior but then maps told me different and I trusted the maps). -some of the staff are much too abrasive for younger kids. This was probably the big sticking point for me especially with a 5yo wanting to control the diggers on his own (5yo and up are allowed this if they choose). some context to this - controls are reasonably complex (although the signage, training provided by staff was phenomenal) so it took a little getting used to by him. Also each station requires different ways to use the same controls to get maximum effect, so for a child learning on the fly it can be a lot to take in (even for an adult). we went on 23/1/24 to the 1230pm session. the man down at the dirt digging station was a little rude to us saying we couldn't go on the digging again (even though had done 3/4 other stations and the lines for those were quite long so rather than waiting for no reason we wanted to hop back onto the digging where there was no line at all which made no sense why he wouldn't let us. also the lady up on the demolition was a little abrasive (although my son mentioned to me unprompted she was rude), but she was just a little more direct then the others and perhaps needed to be. I could see my son's face look a bit intimidated when she was shouting to him the instructions. I understand could be frustrating for the staff if the little ones "aren't getting It" right away. But it is aimed at children so with that in mind all staff should be extra PATIENT and kind. I could tell her heart was in the right place, just the delivery was fairly poor. Just my opinion. apparently numbers were "low" for our session which is why we got to move around a lot. in saying that there were definitely periods where we needed to wait 10 -15 minutes for an activity so I hate to think what the lines are for a packed session. For this I think a few extra machines at different stations (the space is available) would be ideal to reduce lines as 2 hour max timeframe (10 minutes of which used as a safety briefing).
Cons seem longer than the pros but they're not. I just wanted to give some constructive feedback which may (or may not) help. But honestly we had a seriously great time, hes shown all his family and buddies the videos and photos of the day and they couldn't believe he was allowed to do it. top top top idea and no wonder it has such good reviews and is so busy. we...
Read moreVisited Dig IT with my nine year old daughter during the January school holidays in 2025. We arrived at Thunderbird Park and followed the signage to locate Dig IT around the back. It was easy to find and quite a lovely walk there, which took us across a bridge with a beautiful view of the creek.
Upon arrival, we entered the line-up and checked in effortlessly. Despite the rain, everything ran smooth and we were issued our passes, safety gear (vest and hat), and given the option to use a Dig IT umbrella nearby to avoid the rain. There was undercover seating available, a colouring-in station, and enjoyable music playing in the background, which made my daughter happy.
After a brief safety briefing, we entered Dig IT to start our two-hour experience. It's a kind of "choose your own adventure" experience, whereby you are given four main objectives to tick off and you can check them off at your own pace. This format was fantastic and allowed us to pick and choose where we wanted to go, just like a theme park. The line-up for each activity was no longer than 10 minutes and each line-up station was undercover with seating. The short wait means Dig IT had accurately planned the session, so as not to pack it with too many people. This is good because they could have easily added more people to make more money, but this would have caused a negative experience due to long line-ups - so kudos to the management team!
Each experience was fun, unique, and safe, with cheerful team members providing easy-to-understand instructions to the kids. After a few minutes, my daughter nailed the controls and from there she was quickly able to do everything without needing any more help.
The two-hour time cap was spot on. My daughter had done everything in the first hour, so the second hour was spent mostly chilling out in the free play zone, eating snacks, and relaxing in the shade. Not once did we feel stressed for time.
Overall, Dig IT represents fantastic value-for-money and I highly recommend it to...
Read moreOur whole group had a fabulous time here for my son’s 5th birthday party. Ages from 2yr to 11yrs. All the kids love the various machines, though there were wait times, most were only for a few minutes at a time. Plenty for everyone to spread out and have fun. My 5yr was able to manage himself.. Staff were all friendly and great with the kids. Safety was an obvious priority, and the machines seemed well looked after. We had an amazing party zone space, right in the middle of the various zones. It was coned off with a sign saying “Tristan’s Party” had 3x large tables with blue fabric table cloths, and chairs for all the kids and a few adults. There was a built in frame with a pulley system for our supplied wrecking ball piñata (we supplied the lollies) The downsides; signage to getting there/parking were poor, everyone in our group made errors in trying to find it. Even though we were warned of the very poor parking situation, it was disheartening, as the complex it’s self seems so thought out, to have so few parking spots, and not very well definite spots (other than the disability spots 👍) We had an electric wheelchair user (parent) in our group. Though she was able to make it to the dig it area, she needed assistance getting over a bridge that had almost a 1/2 step lip on each end. Then its full gravel, which meant she could watch some of the activities her children where doing, but some were too dangerous for her to attempt to get too. Finally, for a place dedicated to kids, and having quite a group at each session, there was only one composting toilet (not disability friendly) my youngest nearly wet himself waiting in the queue mid session. The next toilet is quite the distance and he wouldn’t have made it either. Over all though, it was a...
