This is one of the 60 Great Short Walks of Tasmania that begins at Fortescue Beach and ends at the dramatic sea cliffs at Cape Hauy of the Tasman National Park. It can be done on independently or as part of a multi-day Three Capes Track.

The out-and-back trail is roughly 9.3km and fairly challenging. Much of the trail is through the nice woodland and hillside environs. Once you reach the Cape, you begin to climb and see the steep sea cliffs, dolerite columns and sea stacks. Views are dramatic and stunning.

Weather can have an affect, we experienced quite a bit of wind at the Cape, much less so while trekking the the woodland section of the trail closer to Fortescue Beach. Make sure to bring enough water, snacks, hat, sun screen, windbreaker or jacket for wind and rain. Proper hiking shoes are...

Did a sunrise hike - started in the dark at 6.15am and got to a great viewpoint (3/4 way into the hike) by 7.30am, just in time to catch the late autumn sun rising above the cape. Great trail condition, well maintained, and yes, lots of steps indeed. Cool and clear weather made for a great hike; don't recommend coming in rain as some rocks could be slippery when wet, and there would be no views anyway. Brought 1L of water which was more than enough in cool weather, but recommend more for summer hikers. Completed hike in 3h40m, including about 30 minutes of stops for...

Clear water and beautiful shore. It will take you 4 hours to return from Cape Hauy from the trailhead. It was a pity we didn’t have sufficient time to complete the whole trail. But it is still a good track to strengthen your physical conditions and enjoy the singular rocks along the shore. I suggest you to reserve 4~5 hours for this track if you plan to see the glorious rocks in your life. By the way, the road to this beach is unsealed and bumpy. You have better drive slowly. We saw one car had flat tire when my wife drove us...
