On Sunday, 27 March, we loaded up our 6-year-old grand-daughter, and drove 46 kms (each way) to S & R orchard as they had advertised on their website: "END OF SEASON Last chance to pick your own fresh fruit of (sic, they meant "off") the trees". We thought that this would be a good experience for our almost 7-year-old granddaughter. Unhappily, it was blatant FALSE ADVERTISING, with NO fruit left on the trees. Instead, they had buckets of nectarines (and tomatoes), in their entry, and we were given 2 small plastic bags to fill. Our granddaughter enjoyed the outing, but the photos on their website do it far more justice than the reality. The "animal farm" was small, unkempt, and pretty sad. The food trucks were expensive, the Pad Thai was easily the worst tasteless glutinous mess we've had in our lives. But the worst was yet to come: when we got home we discovered that the "fresh fruit" was actually old, and we immediately threw out 6 nectarines. I emailed them, and they offered a refund, and then sent me $10! It's 1 star for us, but we've given it 2 stars cos the...
Read moreWhat an amazing place, went to the Christmas festivities today and had so much fun. Jumping castle, ferris wheel, food stalls and photo opportunities galore. It's reasonably priced considering, $7 a car bay including one adult ticket, $5 a kid and $5 a bag for fruit picking. Ferris wheel is $5 extra but there are tractor rides, animal pen, jumping castle and a bubble snow machine all for entry fee. Along with a few other activities and finding the hidden treasures throughout the orchard it's really worth the value for money. I really loved showing the kids where our fruit comes from, how to select ripe fruit and respect the fruit that needed more time to grow. It's also a great way to support local business. Portable toilets onsite (including disabled), easy enough to navigate with a pram or wheelchair and activities are versatile enough that everyone can enjoy. Apparently they do events throughout the year but this was my first visit and I will be looking out for more...
Read moreIf you have seen the real thing (i.e. cherry blossoms), don't go there with that expectation as you will be somewhat disappointed. I went there on the first week that it opened for 2020 and only a couple of rows had a good bloom where the rest where still tying to blossom, so there was a large crowd around the areas that had the good photo moments. If you plan to go on the weekend, make sure that you book in advance as tickets may be sold out quickly. As for me, I went on the weekend after work and it was somewhat busy, but it was also cheaper and you didn't need to pre-book a parking spot. If you had the time and gear, you may be able to get some good shots, but there were some large crowds so there was also queues some some of the booths, etc. If you haven't seen these plants before, it is good to check out, and if pink isn't your colour, there are other trees with white petals, and other times of the year, they will also change colour if you are willing to...
