A popular and photogenic location, not too far from Esperance. Driving on this beach is possible, and quite a few vehicles had set up along the beach at various points to make a day of it, setting up their own chairs and tables for picnics etc.

There are toilet and shower facilities here. Parking is quite plentiful. The nearby campground was fully booked out as I visited during peak tourist season.

Is it worth making the drive to visit here? Yes, if you happen to be nearby in Esperance. Should you make the effort if you are further away, eg. Driving in from Perth? In my view, there are many amazing sights and locations to visit all across Western Australia. This is a beautiful place, undoubtedly, but is it more special and amazing than a dozen other places in the state? Hm. That I cannot answer.

I’m probably the wrong person to speak on the subject because I value peace and tranquillity and a place like this during peak tourist season is not going to be peaceful and tranquil. Of course I’m aware that I’m a tourist as well, but hopefully you can understand what I’m saying about this being visually spectacular but also a little busy and crowded for my taste.

Historical notes: Named ā€œLucky Bayā€ by Matthew Flinders as his ship nearly hit the rocks many times before finding shelter here....

Lucky Bay is an amazing location. It is an easy drive outside Esperance. You can drive on the beach with a normal vehicle. No 4x4 needed.

Pro tip. There are two sheltered areas. Pick the right one and you can be at the beach and not be bother by wind. You can thank me later.

The sand is white hard and fun to walk and play one. The water is so blue… ideal for swimming, snorkeling or just to sit on the beach and meet a Kangaroo. Yes…. the water is cold.

There are toilet facilities and water. There is also a camp site near the beach. If you are lucky ( excuse the punt ), you can buy a coffee from one of the locals that sell coffee from his coffee caravan during holiday periods.

Just a heads up, it is located in a national park. Entry fees are $12 + per vehicle. Trip is well worth it. Hellfire Beach is just up the road and worth visiting also.

I would rate Lucky Bay as one of my top 5 beaches in the...

Sensational beach, probably the best i have ever been. The sand is unlike anything i have ever seen - the finest and whitest. Pictures will be unable to do justice to this place as normal cameras simply cannot capture the contrast between the white sand and the turquiose water! Braved to get into the water even though no one else had, it was pretty cold and didnt venture too far away into the water, but it was safe enough till the point i did. The kangaroos are definitely there. We spotted atleast four of them, of which one was a momma having a joey in the pouch. It was a very humbling experience. Please do not feed the kangaroos as it is harmful for them! Watch and take pleasure but do not cause harm. The bay is large enough that you will have atleast one patch of the beach all to yourself - atleast in October although I did hear it can get quite crowded...
