Nestled in the serene woodlands of Lower Austria, Bärenwald Arbesbach stands as a beacon of hope and compassion for bears in need. This sanctuary, sprawling across lush greenery and natural habitats, exemplifies a harmonious blend of conservation, education, and ethical animal care.

From the moment you step foot into Bärenwald Arbesbach, you are greeted by an atmosphere of tranquility and purpose. The sanctuary's commitment to providing a safe haven for rescued bears is immediately evident in every aspect of its design and operation. Enclosures mimic the bears' natural habitats, offering ample space for them to roam, play, and exhibit their natural behaviors.

One of the most striking aspects of Bärenwald Arbesbach is its dedication to rehabilitation and the well-being of its residents. Each bear has a unique story, often involving a history of captivity or mistreatment. Yet, upon arrival at the sanctuary, these bears are given a second chance at life in an environment that prioritizes their physical health and emotional well-being. Visitors can witness the transformation of these bears as they regain their natural instincts and vitality.

Education plays a pivotal role at Bärenwald Arbesbach. Through guided tours, informative exhibits, and engaging educational programs, visitors of all ages can learn about bear biology, conservation challenges, and the importance of protecting wildlife. This educational component not only enriches the visitor experience but also fosters a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between humans and the natural world.

The staff at Bärenwald Arbesbach are passionate advocates for animal welfare. Their expertise and dedication are palpable, as they provide attentive care to the bears and work tirelessly to ensure the sanctuary operates smoothly. Their commitment to transparency and ethical practices sets a commendable standard in the field of wildlife conservation.

Local partnerships support the sanctuary's initiatives, while eco-friendly practices minimize its environmental footprint. Visitors are encouraged to explore nearby trails, enjoy picnics amidst breathtaking scenery, and participate in various events that celebrate the beauty of nature.

In conclusion, Bärenwald Arbesbach is more than just a sanctuary; it is a symbol of hope and compassion. We highly recommend doing the private tour so you get behind the scene knowledge of each of the bears, their enrichments/activities to let them forage as they would in the wild, but also the conditions in which bears are treated around the world, etc, so you can appreciate the sanctuary and fourpaws and the work they all do. Please remember that this is a sanctuary, not a zoo! The bears are have natural trees and bushes and dens, so you might not see them up close, but this is the beauty of the sanctuary for them. They have natural shade and privacy. Thank you to all the staff and Gabriela (our tour guide in English), for the wonderful experience and all the work you do caring for these bears! It is clear that their lives have significantly improved from the terrible conditions they were in prior, and they now have a second chance at a peaceful life. We planned our trip in Austria around this sanctuary for the love of the work they do. They also have a donation wishlist on their website if you would like to bring some food items while you visit. I would recommend this place to anyone who visits Austria to support the cause...

I'm a fan of bears, I have 3 favorite bears and one of them is Mark, the resident of Arbesbach bear sanctuary. My birthday wish was to see Mark in real life, we drove 14 hours from Belgium to Austria to see him. Let me tell you, it was worth it ( now I have another 2 favorite bears xD). Please, make sure to book in advance your guided tour. Our guides were Annelies and Daan. I was amazed by their devotion to bears and to this place, their professionalism, intelligence and kind spirits. Seeing them at work persuaded me once again, every donation is going directly to 🐻. People like Annelies and Daan make our world a better place. Knowing, that Mark, Brumca and Erich are in such good caring hands, make me feel at ease. If I could give 10000 stars, I would. This sanctuary deserve all the praise. It's definitely not the last...
