My family took some persuading to get them to go there but they ended up being pleasantly surprised. For children, the attraction is that it's lots of tunnels and bridges (I think it's 16 each). For railroad enthusiasts, Semmering railroad needs no introduction. We did a roundtrip from Semmering to Payerbach-Reichenau, which is a 30-minute ride for EUR 3.50 one way per person. Bit of a disappointment. It's a nice track, but you won't see much of the special bridges and tracks from within the train... Make sure to check the time table before - at the current moment the train rides only once every two hours. Next time better take the hike following the track, and take the train back.
