We decided to do the Alpine Coaster to break up our drive back to the airport. At the ticket office, they warned there was a half-hour wait for the Coaster, but we had plenty of time. We planned a quick visit to the petting zoo near the top of the lift (two young kids) before picking up our tickets for the run down, having lunch while we waited.
It turned out that the petting zoo was (a) much further away than the map indicates and (b) the most useless example of its kind we have ever visited. High wooden fencing means kids can't even see the animals except at a few platforms and certainly can't touch them. It's tiny anyway - not remotely worth the walk.
When we got back down to the start of the Coaster, the wait was much longer than we were told - 200 people were ahead of us. Had we known, we could have picked up our numbers for our slots before going to the petting zoo, or just not wasted our time on the petting zoo. But we thought we (a) would miss our slot if we did that, and (b) had plenty of time. We had to take the gondola back down, to the kids' great disappointment.
Speaking to people working at the base, it seems it is a known thing that the wait at weekends is often 2 hours. If they had been honest with us, we could have planned accordingly.
There are so many great facilities like this in Tirol. We have a place in Paznauntal, so come here often. Particularly recommend Fiss, but almost every ski resort has decent summer facilities for families. Imst is the only one I have come across that is misleadingly marketed.
Do bring your family to Tirol - loads of brilliant activities and sights, beautiful scenery, comfortable temperatures, etc. It will beat a beach holiday hands down. But avoid Imst...
Read moreIf you do not have manners or do not have much respect to other people, please do not ride this roller coaster. My experience here is terrible and I want to explain why. This has nothing to do with the staff because they are very polite, proactive and helpful. But some visitors weren’t polite. When I ride the Roller coaster, there were one visitor who hit me hard because the person didn’t follow the safety rule for 5 times!!!, and without saying sorry, but laughing at me instead. This is not acceptable. Why do people consider Safety rules as a joke? Unfortunately , while this happened to me other visitors who saw the situation also show no mercy or understanding, I was really disappointed to see this mindset as well. According to Alpine rules (for the person who prefer to ride an Alpine Roller coaster), some path the visitors need to brake, and each of the rider needs to keep 25 meters distant!!!! Why is it so hard to follow the rule?? There is a big poster which mentioned all of this and stick to the wall! Please read!! I considered this as a selfish behavior because this is not a private roller coaster. It is true that everyone is paying this for an adventurous ride. It’s not for free. But respect certain rules would not be so hard...
Read moreIf I could I would give -5 stars for the service. Instead of indicated 0,5 hour wait, what was indicated when we bought the ticket, once we got to the mountain the wait time was suddenly 1,5 hours. This wait was not possible for us and if we would have known we would never have bought the tickets. At the mountain staff told that they had forgotten to call to the lower station and tell that wait time was increased and recommended to go to the cashier to complain for refund. Obviously this resulted to that we had to use our ticket to get to the lower station again. Once we were there the extremely mean cashier told that no refund is possible because we had used our ticket already (not riding the coaster, only gondola). No apologies given, just mean attitude and money was gone. Never visit this place again if this is the attitude of the staff, avoid. Money is welcome, no customer service...
