In 2013, the reconstructed viewing tower was opened on the summit of Pyramidenkogel, at 851 metres above sea level. At 100 metres tall, it is the highest wooden viewing tower in the world. The construction comprises 16 immense, elliptically arranged, larch glulam supports and 80 diagonal steel braces. The actual structure is 67 metres high. Resting on this is the tower head with the two highest viewing platforms and the ‘Sky Box’. The ‘Sky Box’ (on the 9th floor) is entirely glazed, giving it protection from the elements. At a height of nearly 71 metres, you will find the highest viewing platform, while the largest of the three viewing platforms can be found at a height of 64.16 metres. With its 18-metre tall aerial, the building is exactly 100 metres high. The viewing tower was designed by Klagenfurt architects Markus Klaura and Dietmar Kaden. Whilst climbing up the 441 steps or during a ride in the panoramic lift, visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Carinthia’s wonderful lakes and mountains. The lift transports up to 20 people at a time to a height of 70 metres. From a height of 52 metres within the viewing tower, Europe’s tallest indoor tunnel slide shoots down 120 metres to the ground floor. Speeds of up to 25 km/h can be reached on the 20-second ride. On the ground floor on the main tower building, there is a restaurant which serves national and international dishes, the ticket sales office and a souvenir shop. In the outdoor area there is a spacious playground to entertain the little ones. It has a large climbing frame with slide, as well as some swings and a hill in which a tunnel system is hidden. At the end of the terrace there is a playhouse for very small children.

beautiful architectural design in itself! sitting on top of a steep hill climb. i have been to many "observation" tower/platform from the Eiffel tower, to the top of st. peter's basilica, to Jinmao tower in Pudong, what i appreciated most about the Pyramid is that there are multiple decks and none of them is completely enclosed in with glass panels or fences (would be kind of unimaginable in the US due to the risk of massive lawsuit in case of someone jumping off! 🙄😁) therefore, not only do you have an unobstructed panorama view of the lakes, the alps, the meadows and villages, you also can feel the breeze and fresh air. to my surprise, there is an slide with which you can opt to slide back down. but in order to get more of this breathtaking view and get more fresh air, we opted to walk down the stairs ... unlike many staircases i had climbed before, this one is wide and with very easy steps to negotiate. there are even benches in the middle floors where you can stop and look out again. i was very impressed with architecture itself and many details incorporated to offer convenience and comfort to the visitors. a must stop if you happen to be in the area.

Here are some interesting facts about Pyramidenkogel in Austria Wörthersee: It is the tallest wooden observation tower in the world, at 100 meters (328 feet) tall. It has a 120-meter (394-foot) long spiral slide, which is the longest in Europe. The tower offers panoramic views of Lake Wörthersee, the surrounding mountains, and the Julian Alps in Slovenia. It is also home to a restaurant, a café, and a souvenir shop. The tower was built in 2013 and was designed by the Austrian architect Günther Domenig. Here are some additional interesting facts: The tower is made of over 1,000 cubic meters of wood, which is the equivalent of about 10,000 trees. The tower's spiral staircase has 441 steps. The tower's observation deck is 70 meters (230 feet) above the ground. The tower is accessible by car, bus, or on foot. The tower is a popular tourist destination, attracting over 200,000 visitors each year.

Well, the place is worth the money. Does not mean it doesn't cost a lot. For 14 EUR you get the view of a lifetime and a vertigo (if you are afraid of heights). 10 EUR if you are a student, teenager, kid or retired). 4 additional EUR if you want to use the slide (ca. 20s of a ride). You can use a lift or stairs, also accessible for the handicapped. You can take a photo in the top floor which is then shown downstairs in the souvenir shop. Getting there by bus is quite a stretch, better use a car. Bikes need to overcome a lot of elevation. The view itself is magnificent, you see the whole Wörther-See, surrounding smaller lakes and mountains, even Triglav. You need to buy a ticket at least half an hour before the ascent. Try to get there to see the sunset.

I give 5 star because for the view and the services, but actually not all of them worked, There were lightnings and rain when we arrived but we wait until the staff opens the stairs, because the elevators were off we can spare the entrance fee for the half of my family because they afraid from the heights, the slide was off too, so we can spare some money again, when we arrived back the slide opened, but we can!t buy tickets from inside. In whole time we have to ask staff prices and services availability - they weren't visible information or we can't access it because lots of people are standing everywhere. And the current information tables aren't clear enough. In the ground its worth to find the 2 real picture frame and take some photos. .

This is a really cool place. If you ever are going to visit something near the Wörthersee, do not forget to go to the Pyramidenkogel. It begins with the fun road to the top, pretty steep with a lot of turns. When you are at the top you can park your car there, there is enough place to park. At the bottom of the tower you get your ticket to visit the tower and a ticket for the slide. After you walk the stairs all the way to the top or just take the elevator you can enjoy the beautiful view. When you go a few stairs down you arrive at the 120 meter long slide down the middle of the tower. This ride really gives you a thrill and it goes very fast down. If I'm coming back next year to wörthersee I will definitely go up the tower again!
