There is a Coaster Ride, but it was closed when we visited this place (we don't know why). There is a playground area for children, and locker. Lots of parking space for cars across the building. Those who are skiing can get here by bus from their hotel. For us, we went by foot for around 10 minutes from our hotel. Didn't mind at all because the view all around was so pretty.

We took the Rosenalmbahn (cable car) ride up to the mountain. Our initial plan was to visit Fichtensee auf der Rosenalm, but it was closed. Well, turned out, we came at the very wrong time. It was in March. It was still snow all around. Although they put some signs and directions for what so called "Winter Hiking", we didn't get to wonder too far because we considered it wasn't safe since no visible tracking path whatsoever. But, it was not a disappointing experience at all! Oh, the snow that was covering the mountains and the trees, so beautiful! We enjoyed the Rosenalmbahn ride, the view, and the peacefulness sitting under a shade and being surrounded by snow.

We enjoyed watching people skiing. We didn't go skiing, so we only paid 29 Euro per person, it was to ride the Rosenalmbahn up until Rosenalm (1744 m) and return back down. There is 1 Euro refundable deposit per person if you retrieve the ticket at the machine. For those skiing, they can ascend even higher, most likely depends on what tickets they bought from the beginning. Up there, there is atleast one restaurant that was open where people can eat and drink, but they also provide a dining room for those who bring their own food.

Overall, an...

The ski area is large and diverse, with good snow conditions throughout the season. There's a lot of groomed slopes as well as nice off-piste areas. The lifts are modern and comfortable.

However, the management could be more client-oriented rather than purely profit-driven. When many lifts in the area were stopped from 1pm to the end of the day on 23.02.2024 due to a power outage, and lots of guests were stuck in random parts of the ski area for a couple of hours (some of them on one of the chair lifts or gondolas), the staff first declined any possibility of even a partial refund. Later, some clients got a refund of 12 EUR (as if the ticked was returned at 1pm) with a remark that this was already a courtesy to offer such a refund after 1pm. This sounded like a poor joke, given that the descent to the village had already been closed and lifts had not...

Best skiing area in winter, also suitable for snowboarding by the way. Plenty of lifts and slopes of different difficulty. Not extremely hard though. Always more options to find your way to a starting point of a skilift, from easy to harder. Ski and snowboard schools at different locations in the Arena. From one end to the other it takes half a day, at least when it's a holiday period with plenty of guests. Several cable car type lifts and multiple person chairlifts. Always snow available, but not at all sides of a perfect quality. Some slopes are notorious icy, others are always in a good condition, like those at the gerlosplatte side of the Arena. In summer nice mountain and hiking trips possible. With the lake and wooden playground at the top of the Zell am ziller cable car as one of the best...

To be honest - we visited the Zillertal Arena as a group of 20. Mixed ski experiences. In general the ski area is ok but for sure not brilliant: The Rosenalm was very cute but not big enough to give beginners a really nice experience as the green line is maybe 200m long which is really not much. From there you can take the blue line to the middle station - but it doesn’t look like a really nice experience. Also the 2 blue line lifts are nice but after 10 min skiing it takes you 20 min to get up again. The restaurants are ok and from a price perspective fair.

One of the largest ski areas in Austrian Tyrol, Zillertal has a reliable snowfall & caters for all standards of skiers. Very easy access from the E45 road from Innsbruck to Rosenheim via the 169 along the valley to Mayrhofen. Adult day tickets are around Euro 60, & are covered by the Superskicard season ticket. Good quality modern lift systems. The town of Gerlos is in the middle of the area if you're staying overnight - & plenty of alms for food & drink on the slopes. Fabulous views from the mountain top at Königsleiten - check out my photo. 10/10
