The history of humanity is a constant up and down of wars and peace. The European Museum of Peace wants to introduce you to this history of war and peace, causes and conditions of peace, violence and peace, for which Schlaining Castle and the European Peace University are the ideal setting.

Nevertheless, war is not our destiny, humanity is not condemned to eternal war. But peace does not come by itself, as the development of the European Union shows. One hundred years ago, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Alfred Nobel wrote: "If you want peace, you must prepare peace." This is also the guiding principle of the Peace Museum, which aims to make a small contribution to the emergence of the global peace consciousness with its scientific, artistic and pedagogical concept.

Another principle of the museum is that peace is more than the absence of violence and war. Because the emergency of life is not the war, but the peace in which we all have to prove ourselves.

Positive peace therefore always has something to do with freedom and human rights, with social justice and the preservation of the natural environment. Városszalónak vára története Városszalónak vára, amely a 13. század közepén épült, számos romantikus és izgalmas történetet rejt magában. A várat 1240 körül építették, és az évszázadok során többször is átépítették és megerősítették. Az egyik legérdekesebb történet a 15. század közepére nyúlik vissza, amikor Baumkirchner András és utódai bővítették és megerősítették a várat.

A vár környéke a középkorban fontos stratégiai pont volt, és számos csata színhelye. A 17. században Batthyány Ádám nagy borospincét, magtárat és új várkaput építtetett hozzá, ami tovább növelte a vár jelentőségét. A várat körülvevő közterület neve és jellege az évszázadok során többször is változott, ahogy a város fejlődött és modernizálódott.

A várhoz számos mende-monda és pletyka is fűződik. Az egyik legismertebb történet szerint a vár egyik korábbi tulajdonosa, egy gróf, titokban szerelmes volt egy helyi parasztlányba. A gróf és a lány titkos találkozókat tartottak a vár egyik eldugott szobájában, de a kapcsolatuk végül tragikus véget ért, amikor a gróf felesége rájött a viszonyra és bosszút állt.

A vár környékén számos érdekes esemény is történt. A 19. században például egy híres párbaj zajlott le a vár közelében, amelyben két nemes vetélkedett egy hölgy kegyeiért. A párbaj végül tragikus véget ért, amikor az egyik nemes halálos sebet kapott.

A vár és környéke számos film jelenetének is helyszínéül szolgált. Az egyik legismertebb film, amelyet itt forgattak, egy történelmi dráma volt, amely a középkori Magyarország életét mutatta be.

History of Városszalónak Castle Városszalónak Castle, built in the mid-13th century, is steeped in romantic and thrilling tales. Constructed around 1240, the castle has been rebuilt and fortified multiple times over the centuries. One of the most intriguing stories dates back to the mid-15th century when András Baumkirchner and his descendants expanded and strengthened the castle.

In the medieval period, the area around the castle was a crucial strategic point and the site of numerous battles. In the 17th century, Ádám Batthyány added a large wine cellar, granary, and a new castle gate, further enhancing the castle’s significance. The name and character of the public area surrounding the castle have changed several times over the centuries as the town developed and modernized.

The castle is also the subject of many legends and rumors. One of the most famous stories involves a former owner, a count, who secretly fell in love with a local peasant girl. The count and the girl held secret meetings in a secluded room of the castle, but their relationship ended tragically when the count’s wife discovered the affair and sought revenge.

Numerous interesting events have taken place around the castle. In the 19th century, for example, a famous duel occurred near the castle, where two nobles competed for a lady’s favor. The duel ended tragically when one of the nobles received a fatal wound.

The castle and its surroundings have also served as the backdrop for several film scenes. One of the most well-known films shot here was a historical drama depicting life in medieval Hungary.
