On the Gallitzinberg in Vienna Ottakring there is an observatory dating from the Historicist period. It once belonged to a major industrialist of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and has retained its historic appearance to this day. The Kuffner Observatory houses an important collection of astronomical instruments from the 19th century. The telescopes were manufactured by the renowned companies "Repsold und Söhne" in Hamburg and "Steinheil" in Munich. During my visit, we were unable to check the telescope due to windy and cloudy weather. I cannot comment on it.

If you’re going for observation, it’s only open for observation on occasion and if you’re planning on seeing some stars through the telescope make sure to pick a good day that’s not too cloudy at night, but a wonderful experience. The guide always gives a great lecture throughout the observation on the stars that night too, so definitely make sure to stay for the whole hour long...
