The Landskron castle and the view from the top are absolutely stunning! You get a fantastic panorama of the nearby city and the surrounding landscape. Definitely worth the climb. The climb is really steep but luckily there is a parking spot at the top for more accessibility for people with a disability.
The falconry show is super fun to watch and great for both adults and kids. It’s done in both German and English, which makes it accessible to many visitors. The birds look very healthy and well cared for, and they seem to genuinely enjoy participating in the show. Afterward, you can even take a picture with one of the birds.
There are also nice food facilities at the castle, which is perfect if you want to relax after the show.
One thing that could be improved is the living space for the birds in the cages. While the birds seem healthy and well-fed, the enclosures are a bit bare mostly gravel with no plants or enrichment. There also aren’t many perches, though each bird does have a comfortable nest.
Overall, a great experience with breathtaking views, a memorable show, and clear care for the animals but with some room to make the bird enclosures a bit more...
Read moreWonderful experience! During the show, you can see many impressive birds (eagles, owls, falcons) fly over your head and simultaneously learn about them — their habitat, their hunting techniques, etc. The main language is German, but a lot of the information was also translated into English (at least the most relevant bits.) After the show, you can take a picture with some of the smaller birds and afterwards walk leisurely through the place, where you'll find some of the birds that were part of the show, and others that weren't. It's stated at the beginning of the show that the birds aren't forced to do anything and if they don't feel like participating, they can just fly away. We were lucky that not only did they decide to play along, but even an eagle that wasn't supposed to be part of it decided to show up and entertain us.
If you're in the region for a few days, getting the Kärnten Card may be a good idea, since it grants you free entry to the Adler-Arena, and you can combine it with the Affenberg, which is in walking distance, and is also included in the...
Read moreThe last time I watched a hawk show was a long time ago when I was a kid and I remember that I didn't find it super excited. But the show at Burg Landeskron blew my mind! They told us interesting facts about ravens, hawks and eagles. They told us that they behave like wild animals, even though they are breeded and grown up by humans. They only loose their fear of humans and therefore we could watch them fly over our heads so closely. They showed us how they hunt and navigate acrobatically through the air. They told us that during the last show yesterday afternoon a golden eagle escaped, which can happen from time to time. And this very eagly decided to come back during our show, which was an awesome coincidence! Afterwards my daughter was allowed to hold a fawk on her hand for the very first time. It was a very nice experience, even though it was very sunny and there was no shade, because any kind of sun cover would have...
