In 1988, MA Mannan, former Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong District and some other elites of the city, initially took initiative to establish a private zoo at Foy's Lake for the purpose of recreation, education and research on zoo animals. It is situated at hilly land of Foy's lake, South-Khulshi, Chittagong. Later, on February 8, 1989 the zoo was opened for the visitors. Initially 4.90 acres of land was allocated by the Bangladesh Government, which afterwards increased to 6 acres. Initially there were 5 different species and total number of animals were 23. After that the total number of species and animals has increased. In 2019, the total number of animals ist 300 and the number of species is 53. Among them, 25 are Mammals, 24 are Birds and 4 are Reptiles. Mammals There are 25 available mammals in this zoo. There are python , crocodiles , lions , Royal Bengal Tigers , monkeys and some other common animals are here . There are some other rare species of birds and animals also here . Unlike some other zoos , there is no bad smell of dust and foods of the animals . the visitors feel comfortable . There are small hills here with stairs to climb . All the stairs are painted with beautiful colors . There is kids Zone where children can play and enjoy some rides free of cost . Entry fee of the zoo is reasonable . No foods and drinks are available inside the zoo area . ~This zoo is the most favourite place of my little sisters to visit frequently . The cases of birds , monkeys , tigers , lions , rabbit , peacock , dove , bear , horses were liked the most by her in every aspect . Above all , she mostly enjoyed the kids playing zone at the downstair's corner of the zoo . Excellent place for kids . It's very much attractive than before as lots of renovation done espeicaly colourful stairs to enhance the beauty of the Zoo . Now it is very much standard for all class of people . Kids can introduce with different kinds of animals in a neat and clean environment definitely with worth enjoy . Highly recommended the place . This is a nice opportunity to introduce lots of natural creatures to our new generations . * Entrance fee ( currently ) : 50 BDT per person * Request to everyone : 1. Don't bother any birds or animals in anywhere . 2. Put your wastages in the designated waste-bin

Went to see Chottogram Zoo with my grand daughter in a late afternoon. Weather was extremely hot and humid. I was more impressed with the scenic walk way around the zoo. The animals looked tired with the heat and humidity and who likes to live in prison. Only little space to live their life! Chittagong Zoo is a zoo in Chittagong, Bangladesh. In 1988 initiative was taken to establish a private zoo at Foy's Lake for the purpose of recreation, education and research on zoo animals. It is situated at hilly land of Foy's lake, South-Khulshi, Chittagong. Later, on February 28, 1989 the zoo was opened for the visitors. Initially 4.90 acres of land was allocated by the Bangladesh Government, which afterwards increased to 10.2 acres. Some flatterers put several plaques of a government servant who seemed to be an administrator during the construction. Public toilets needed an entry fee!

Located in a beautiful place beside the biggest amusement park in Chittagong, Chittagong Zoo is one of the best Zoos in Bangladesh. It has an extensive collection of widely available animals, from Tigers to crocodiles, Ostriches, Bears, and many more. It also houses one of the rarest forms of Tiger, the “White Tiger.” It has one of the most extensive bird collections ever in Bangladesh. From Common to Rare, it's massive. It also has an enormous park area with children's rides and staircases around the mountain tops. Here are some of the pros and cons of this place: Pros: • Wide Collection of Animals • Staircases around the mountain tops • Offers children's rides • So many great views to see and enjoy • The ticket comes in very cheap Cons: • Needs proper maintenance • Most of the animals aren’t cleaned and fed very often • The place is also not very clean • The Mosque Inside is permanently closed • Not many guides around the place • No food stall inside, and food stalls outside are overpriced

Chittagong zoo is a beautiful place with about 54 species like Tiger, Lion, Fishing cat, Jungle cat, Asiatic Black bear, Leopard cat, Large civet, Palm civet, Bengal Fox, Barking Deer, Samber Deer, Spotted Deer, Zebra, Gayal, Horse, Rhesus Macaque, Porcupine, Hoolock, Marsh Crocodile, Tortoise, Yellow Turtle and birds like Peafowl, Pied Hornbill, Vulture, Red Jungle Fowl, Hill Mayna, Rose ringed parakeet, Spotted Dove, Eagle, Little Egret, Cattlr egret, Little cormovant, Night Heron, Pond Heron, Great pied Hornbill, Lesser Adjutant Stork. Among them 25 are Mammals, 25 are Birds & rest of 4 are Reptiles. Total number of animals are 300. People of all ages can come here, get entry With a ticket of BDT 30. You can see all the 54 species, their activities and can take photos. But, Feeding animals is strictly prohibited here. Of late Chittagong zoo is being renovated. Now it looks more colourful and nice.
