This is a fairly small and not crowded beach. You can get sunbeds for $10 USD per person from the lifeguard if you want, but it's not mandatory. There is only the nearby restaurant and drinks are very expensive there, so make sure to bring your own.
One thing to be careful of is that the trees where the restaurant is, are the very toxic manchineel trees - you can see those marked with a red painted band. The trees on the right side of the beach are not dangerous and you can sit under their shade safely.
The other thing to be careful of is the sea urchins on the rocks next to the restaurant. Stay away from that unless you're absolutely confident of what you're doing.
There's a large unpaved parking lot nearby, though keep in mind many people come to that restaurant for lunch so you might struggle to find space around that time.
Having said that, it was an enjoyable day for us and would recommend it as long as you keep in mind all...
Read moreBatts Rock beach is a quiet, secluded beach great for skinny dipping in the (very) early mornings and it used to be good for gay cruising in the late evenings in the 90s (What? It's true!).
Didn't give it five stars because the Four Seasons hotel, abandoned during construction, is unsightly and I imagine someone could lay in wait there, but this has never happened.
The water is calm, and, at low tide, a reef is exposed. There you can see 'sergeant majors' (yellow fish with black stripes) and if you look under the rocks sometimes you'll see brittle starfish (please don't grab them by the legs or take them out of the water - as the name suggests...they're brittle). Once, snorkeling around the reef, a turtle scared the vodka out of me! If you're patient you'll see turtles come up for a split second to take a breath.
I forget his name (Philip King) but don't hesitate to go up to the guy who stacks the washed up coral. Super...
Read moreIt cannot be stated enough that the west coast of Barbados has absolutely stunning turquoise water. Batts Rock Beach is surely no exception to that statement. The water was exactly what I was seeking, warm and blue! There is plenty of space on the beach to find a spot, but I would advise on staying on the opposite side where the restaurant is.
There is parking in the back with plenty of spots. Be aware that there are some little green apple looking fruits that fall from the trees, those are poisonous and harmful to touch, there is a sign that states it but we missed it.
Leaving the area around 5:00 PM was a nightmare, the traffic was on another level. Took us an hour and a half to get from the beach to our hotel...
