Not one of the grandest waterfalls in Iceland but certainly beautiful, nonetheless. You can take the trails all around and explore freely, no matter what time of day. It's not an enclosed area so there is no time limit for you to explore. You have a great vantage point when the sun is out because then the many colors of the waterfall come alive. There is also a surprising amount of flora and fauna here. Parking is free and there is a cafe just off the trail. If you want to use the bathroom there, you will have to pay if you are not a customer of the cafe. When I visited it was around 2 ISK. Warning about the insects. If you are looking for a pleasant getaway remote travel experience - Barnafoss is a perfect small gem. You can explore it within 20-30 minutes by walking along specially constructed pathways and take many photos of breathtaking views to the waterfall.
There is a dark legend behind the waterfall connected with two kids who runaway from their mother and the rapid waters took them over. So be careful and watch your steps.
