I had a very nice visit here. The staff is very friendly and also very flexible. Even though they did not have student discounts. They still sold us (4 person) 2 adult tickets and 2 children ticket as a student discount. The visit is also very friendly to English speaker. Even though our group is guided by a French-sepaking former miner, we still got audioguide in English while following the guide. The whole trip took around 2 hours and note that you'd better prepare a earplugs for children or when you can not tolerant the nosie since the guide will run several machines that are hydraulic-driven, which are very noisy. During the trip, you will visit two levels of mine 30m and 60m under the ground and I found it is very thrilled and excited. By the way, even though the temperature is very low, approximately 10 degrees underground, they will equip you with a jacket and a helmet. I would defintely recommend this...

Visiting the coal mine was an exciting and very informative experience, which we definitely recommend! We were impressed by the atmosphere and history.

However, there's a significant downside: all tours are in Danish, and the English audio guide is extremely brief (about a minute of info). The Danish guide speaks at length and in detail, leaving us waiting and understanding nothing. Most of the tour was spent waiting, which really diminished the experience.

We hope the administration will expand the English options (full tours or a more detailed audio guide). Despite the language barriers, the mine is worth visiting, but be prepared that without Danish, much will...

If you’re ever nearby, you must visit this.

When commercial mining stopped, this coal mine was turned into a museum pretty much right away. The museum describes the history of coal mining in the area and in Europe.

Part of the visit is a guided tour through the actual mine, where all the equipment is preserved in working (noisy!) order. The tour guides each have a ‘godparent’ miner that used to work in the mine and has really educated them on what the work there was like.

Before I visited this mine, I knew life as a miner was rough, but I was appalled to learn exactly how rough.

Oh, and the UN has designated this a world heritage site for all of...

Groet M Sprengers
