Not sure what to negative reviews are about. ||For 1 night of our Belgian Trappist tour, I booked 3 rooms via email and a phone call to provide credit card number for the deposit. Flawless, was advised to arrive before 10pm for check-in and that kitchen closes at 9pm if we were planning to eat. ||Upon arrival 8:30pm, they suggested we sit for dinner so we can enjoy dinner without being rushed. And she would show us our room after dinner. I found service superb. ||Dinner was good, cheese and cold cut platter was superb. Other food was so-so, I would agree there are better restaurants. |Had the beer flight (Chimay gold, red, blond and blue). Then we all finished with a large blue. Dessert platter was very good as well. ||Rooms are nice, mini bar full of Chimay. Very quiet out in the country feel. We herd cows. :-)||2 quirky things about the rooms. The bathrooms have some sort of connected window (you can't see but you definitely hear). And you can hear people walking in their rooms from your room. Now I did not hear anyone snore, but the floors are definitely creaky. ||Nothing too special for breakfast. Typical Belgian fare, but note Chimay multigrain bread (also sold in the store). ||Went thru the Chimay Espace mini tour upon opening next morning. Interesting enough. Your choice of any Chimay after the tour if you opted for the beer after. ||Abbey is not 5-10min walk. I swear it was longer as we walked after dinner. ||When buying our beer in the store, attendant was very helpful, showing us the different vintages available. There were very few 2016 and 2015 left. When I asked for recommendation for a chocolate store, she even called them to make sure they were open for us. ||Again superb service all around! |I sort of wondered if it was because we spent dinner, drinks, room and purchases there. But definitely no issues with service. ||If in the area, I would definitely stay again. Allowed me to enjoy as much Chimay as I wanted without worry of driving to...

Read moreI was with a party of four and we ate at the restaurant and stayed for one night in the hotel.||||The beer is excellent. We started with the four beer sampler and the five cheese sampler. Loved, loved the beer and the cheese! The cheese is excellent. We enjoyed these fine delicacies while sitting outside on the large, open terrace and soaked in the lovely countryside views.||||We then moved to the restaurant for some wonderful food and more beer. Our main dishes were great! Large menu with lots to choose from. Many were of local variety. Desserts were yummy, too.||||The Staff were very nice, as well, and they are quite busy. This place - though remote - is quite popular with tourists and locals alike.||||After dinner, around 10PM when the restaurant closed, we headed to our rooms upstairs. The small hotel above the pub/restaurant has only 7 rooms, so book in advance because they fill up quick. The rooms were quiet and comfortable. It becomes very quiet once the restaurant empties out. It was great to just open the window and enjoy the sounds, smells, and sights of the countryside. Free wi-fi, comfy beds, flatscreen TV, mini-fridge, en-suite bathroom - all made for a pleasant stay.||||There's also a small, interactive museum where you can spend about 30 minutes to work your way through the entire thing.||||A gift shop offers loads of beers to choose from, including some of the more rare Chimay beers. And cheese! Definitely take home some of the delicious cheese, for sale at the gift shop.||||Overall, drinking, eating, and staying a night here on a summer weekend was fantastic. It was really enjoyable. There's also of course the small abbey nearby that you can easily walk to. I recommend walking the trail through the forest to get to the abbey.||||Restaurant and hotel recommended. I'd like to visit again! What a great way to be out in the countryside, imbibe delicious brews, scarf down tasty food, and walk to...
