An amazing place for little bit of adventure. The trail as a whole is a bit tricky more leaning towards 'be very careful' if you are taking the stroll with small kids. For kids of age lets say 7+ its a nice adventure. There is amble parking space near to the start of the trail which you start through the ticket counter. The whole trail can take up to more than 2 hours minimum.
You can see remains of roman structures and there are awesome caves on the way. There are dwelings in the ground leading you to openings with amazing view of the river down below. Steps through out the trail have baricades to hold on while going down, some areas are easier than the other to get down.
The route first takes you to the top of the hill in less than 15 - 20 mins, in my case I was with family of 2 small kids and 2 elder people. From the top you kind of take the path which swirls downhill. Towards the middle of the downhill path you can take deviation which leads to the river bank or you can take the route which takes you to the spot you started. The route takes you round the hill where you can see some more of amazing cave structures. The temparature was too hot and it was drought season hence the caves were mostly dry and dusty. So expect water and slippery surfaces in other times.
The downhill path after a while goes parellel with the river leading you to a small snack bar. Make sure you have some hard cash with you since the digital payment system is not quite something that you...
Read moreGreat walk lasting around two hours or less. As helpfully described by another review, you can get there by train from the Gendron-Celles station, walk under the railway and go right into the kayak place before the road bridge. A path marked red and white at the back of the yard will take you to halfway through the park’s route, where you will find the restaurant La Flobette (no card payments) on the riverside. I’m not sure when they expect you to arrive at the hut at the official start if coming by train but we arrived late there and were let through to finish our loop before eating at the restaurant and leaving the same way we came. All the people I encountered at the site were very nice. Strangely, only the French and Dutch parts of the website have a link to the booking, if you are struggling to find it. Highlights are the views near the start over the forest, river and railway, and from the hole in the cliffside, which you will have been able to see from below if you came from the direction of the train station. There’s a few caves and it is also fun walking alongside the river before reaching...
Read moreIt takes about 1h30 to see it all. You have a couple of nice views and things to see during the walk (about 12 i believe). Some viewpoints, some old roman walls and a fully restored roman bath house. They rebuilt the bath house according to old plans and even field tested it to make sure it worked just like during the roman times: they filled the baths with water and heated the water with wood for several days. The result was that they had warm water baths with a constant temperature. Along the track -which is very well marked- you'll also visit caves (i.e. some very ancient burial cave) It is a very nice a beautiful walk. Almost at the end you can enjoy some ice-cream or drink(s) at a...
