The Hoëgne is a river, yes and a beautiful one. I started the trail around 9:30, early enough that the forest was still half asleep. The way up was quiet, just the sound of rushing water and the crunch of leaves underfoot.

Compared to Ninglinspo, it’s less interesting in terms of hiking: more even, less climbing, no surprises waiting behind each turn. But what it lacks in drama, it makes up for in detail. The Hoëgne runs fuller, stronger, a higher-volume stream that carries both sound and light. Small cascades tumble over mossy stones, each bend a photograph waiting to happen.

By noon, the calm had changed. On the way back, I crossed paths with families, dogs, photographers, and even a few trail runners. All sorts, really, drawn to the same river and the same autumn glow.

Lacking great heights, the Hoëgne invites you to look closer, at the moss, the foam, the way the water dances between roots and stones.

October whispers through the trees, the river answers, and everything...

Awesome little gem of a hiking spot. We stopped to stretch our legs and get outdoors in a natural setting. We didn't have a long time and only went a mile or so out and back. The trail is well marked but I did not notice if it was a loop or not. We simply walked out and back. The stream is nice and the surrounding landscapes are pretty. Parking was tight, not many spots and parked tight, indicating its popularity. The little drive through the stream was kind of cool, the water is only a few inched deep over a concrete road base. Our little Lexus made it across dry and without incident. There were lots of other small cars in the lot that also must have crossed the river as well. Lots of people and their dogs, so keep an eye out...

Friends of ours recommend us this place as one of the most beautiful hikes in the Ardennes, and they were right. The hike goes all the way next to a small river that you get to enjoy until the very end. The beginning of the hike was pretty flat and wide, after a 2 km you bump into a few picnic tables and a bench to take a break, grab your lunch or just stay to enjoy the peaceful area. After this hike the claim begins and it becomes narrow and quite full of roots from the tree's. The sound of the river and of the nature gives you the best feeling of peace. This is a hike for basic/intermedium. Don't bring your the buggy or wheelchair since you won't be able to climb with...

So far it was the best hike in Belgium. Took us around 2,5-3 hours to complete just this route without stopping much. It really is moderate to challenging for people who don’t hike very often. And beware if you have knee pain as it is a lot of incline and decline. We went first along the river and back through the forest. About 20-30 mins into the walk there is a nice picnic spot with tables. The path back was super easy. Parking tends to fill up close to 13:00 on the weekend, however it is possible to park nearby but it will be quite a walk especially when you are leaving. Overall it’s a great place for anyone who likes nature.

If this is not the most beautifull hike in Belgium ... Please tell me what is! You can startvyour walk on 2 different parts of the hike and everything is very clearly mapped. It will take you along the small river and through the forests. It is a very relaxing walk, if you go during the week there arent many people, but due to the beauty of this place, it does get more crowdy during the weekend. You dont need to take your best walking shoes, but do be advised that you can get muddy. I hope you enjoy the walk as much as we did.
