On a rainy afternoon we had to change our plans and decided to visit the museum. Very impressed! Creative, interactive ways to tell the wartime stories through the voices of people who experienced WWII. Especially liked the bunker bombing experience, the VR spitfire raid and the poignant touches where the story inside led you to look outside in the garden - first the ditch where in the final day's Belgiums were executed and towards the commerative war grave gardens which are close to the museum. Too many good things to mention. If you are Belgium, Dutch, British, American, German, interested or not in WWII, pay a visit and enjoy the immersive experience. Took us, 2 adult, 3 children (teens) 2.5 hours and we all enjoyed it. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Nice shop. Would be an added bonus (and it is a missed opportunity in my opinion) if there...
Read moreA thoughtfully curated and brilliantly presented museum of Leopoldsburg with a focus on the second world war. Both sides are represented and I thought balanced without demonisation or value judgements, just told as it was. We were provided a small reader set to one of four languages/child or adult to enjoy details of the many multimedia interviews and explanations on camera, subtitles were used too. The bomb shelter recreation worked well. Some of the exhibits had a button on a small screen or a hand sensitive area within a projected image to commence the multimedia and they all worked. The virtual reality airplane ride was the finale and highly enjoyable. A member of the staff showed us how the systems worked and carefully set up the VR experience for us. We had a really good morning including a chat at the end...
