Hospital Our Lady with the Rose — Attraction in Lessines

Visiting the Hospital de Notre Dame Lessines is like stepping into a time machine, whisking you back to the medieval era. This magnificent hospital-convent is a treasure trove of history, where the pest doctor mode is not just a costume but a full-on experience. The knowledge shared about the intersection of medicine and history is nothing short of enlightening, delivered in an authentic setting that feels untouched by time.

The garden, open for all to explore, is a delightful bonus. They even house poisonous plants. Picture yourself wandering among herbs and enjoying stunning views that make you forget the town of Lessines itself isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot. While the town may not be worth your time, this gem certainly is. If you’re a history buff or just someone who appreciates a good story, this place is well worth a visit!

As a new resident to Lessines, I was given tickets to visit the museum. The museum also sent a letter to new residents to go collect a welcome gift of books and postcards based on the hospital. Staff were all very welcoming and congratulatory. Audio guide was available in English. I particularly loved the medicinal garden, though it was winding down for the winter. I will definitely make another visit the the garden during spring and summer as it was an ideal place to study plants, with everything clearly labelled and...

En ce jour de semaine,

Je prends la route direction Lessines (50 min de Charleroi) pour visiter l'hôpital Notre Dame de la Rose.

Le lieux est ouvert du mardi au vendredi de 9h00 à 18h00 (samedi et dimanche de 9h30 à 18h30). L'exposition "Si j'avais 20 ans en 1900" débute à 13h30. Vous pouvez également visiter les jardins. Pour la visite du musée et de l'exposition, vous devez compter 15€/adulte (avec le pass visite wallonia, vous gagnez +/-1,30€). Voici pour les infos pratiques.

L'exposition à été conçue et réalisée par deux historiennes. La mise en place de l'exposition dans sa globalité à permis aux membres du personnel de participer pour nous faire vivre et suivre la vie de Valentine à travers des audio et son journal intime. Relevant d'une histoire vraie.

Grâce à ces personnes, je me suis plongé dans cette époque, dans ce siècle des lumières. Après, 1h30 de visite (il faut prendre son temps). Je reviens à notre époque. Sacré aller-retour.

Concernant le musée, vous avez la partie des Sœurs infirmières la création de l'hôpital. La reconstitution de deux chambres des Sœurs : 17 & 19e siècles (un confort totalement différent étant plus riche au 19e). La pharmacopée permettant aux Sœurs infirmières d'être en auto suffisantes. Beaucoup d'ouvrage et de matériel employé à l'époque sont exposés. La visite se conclut par les lits des Sœurs malades dans une pièce, les lits des malades dans une autre et la maternité.
