Fort Liezele — Attraction in Puurs-Sint-Amands

Excellent access to a WW1 fort which was part of the defensive line around Antwerp. Small reception and gift shop just to the left of the fort. Staff very helpful. Lots of areas to explore and you can walk around part of the outside where the cupolas are. interpretive panels lead you through the forts history along with an audio guide and lots of interactive screens. Nice surroundings with cycle paths and walking paths. Cafe on site too but never visited

The fort was closed for renovation, but one of the volunteers took me on a private tour. It is a wonderful old fort that the city of Puurs is turning into a wonderful park. By summer the lawns and the parking will be finished. The work being done is mostly by volunteers and they truely love what they are doing. I would really recommend that you take your family and enjoy spending the day...

Fort Liezele ins het best bewaarde pantserfort van de tweede fortengordel rond Antwerpen. Prachtig museum over het ontstaan van het fort tot en met het ontstaan vrijwilligers werking. Belicht WO 1 en WO 2. Individuele bezoeker betaalt 7 euro audiofoon waarmee men op een 15-tal locaties in het fort uitleg krijgt . De audiofoon is beschikbaar in 4 talen. Namelijk Nederlands, Frans, Engels en Duits. Sinds deze zomer beschikt het fort over een brasserie " De batterie ", een nieuwe multimedia zaal, een nieuwe tentoonstellingsruimte en een nieuw bureau voor de administratie. Al deze nieuwe lokalen en de brasserie zijn uitgerust met de meest moderne uitrusting. Individuele bezoekers kunnen het fort bezoeken van begin maart tot en met 11 november op zaterdag, zondag en feestdagen van 13u30 t/m 18u. Rondleidingen voor groepen gebeuren op aanvraag het hele jaar door. Wie interesse heeft in de geschiedenis van het fort Liezele en de tweede fortengordel rond Antwerpen kan in het fort veel bijleren.
