Belfry of Thuin — Attraction in Thuin

Beautiful little town with picturesque walkways and lovely gardens. We visited the bellfry and enjoyed the views in all 4 directions. The steps are steep and the adventure is not for those who are afraid of heights since the steps are transparent and the walkways are narrow. The bells ring on the half hour and on the hour. Amazing view of town an n be surrounding area. Make sure you go up to belfry during the bells ringing. The ringing is done with a pneumatic system now, but the original mechanisms are all there in plain sight. Fantastic way to learn about the purpose of the belfry...

Un documentaire télévisuel qui manque de commentaires et de liant entre les différentes séquences pour commencer la visite. Des panneaux didactiques intéressants mais finalement fort peu en rapport l'histoire du beffroi ou de la ville de Thuin (présentation des beffrois wallons, Wallonie présentée d'ailleurs comme une "terre de beffroi", il y en 2 à 3 fois plus en Flandres). Ensuite, la montée des marches ne nous offre qu'un cheminement vers le sommet, passage devant le mécanisme horloger sans aucune explication, ... Au sommet, vous escaladez des marches quasi verticales pour atteindre les 4 (petites) fenêtres au travers desquelles, si vous dégagez les toiles de poussière, vous pourrez observer la vue dégagée mais sans rien d'extraordinaire sur les environs (champs, Sambre, église, château d'eau,...
