It's a lovely castle in the Belgium Ardennes. You can reach it by car quite close by or park at the dam parking and walk over the dam and through a bit of forest to the castle. They have little tours there a few times through the day, if you're interested to see a bit more of the castle. There are trails around the castle that will give you beautiful views during walks. The photos I've added are made on one of those trails behind the castle. You see a little waterfall which is just besides the backside of the castle and there are lovely little bridges to cross little streams. The little bridge in the photo was closed because it was broken down, so we had to cross the stream by stepping on some rocks in the stream which worked very easy for our family. The trails aren't buggy or wheelchair friendly, but our three year old did just fine by foot. Just the occasional hand when crossing a stream or climbing some little rocks, but nothing insane. I highly recommend this place and it's surrounding forest. There's a lovely campsite in a neighbouring village called Robertvile or maybe you'll enjoy a long weekend in Malmedy. Either way, this is a really nice addition to a lovely trip to...
Read moreThe guided tour and the guide were superb! Our guide was Lydia and she knew a whole lot about the castle, its history and its renovations. The tour lasted an hour an forty minutes in the end rather than the one hour they said it would be, but I enjoyed every bit of it! The view was great as well and the castle is almost intact in its entirety, the only thing still missing is the kitchen, but they're planning on recreating that in the next view years. The only downside is the path to the castle which is in very bad shape and people with disabilities may not be able to access it very easily and in the heat it may be a bit exhausting. But other than that, it was a...
Read moreBeautifuly restored castle. The environment around it is perfect for a family hike, and the guided tour inside and around the castle is interesting, and gives you a good oversight of the history of the castle, while showing you beautiful views. The hike to the waterfall is not well signaled, and the fall is pretty much hidden away and easy to miss (it makes finding the waterfall even more rewarding and you feel like a true explorer).
The prices are correct, and the bread with cheese and pathé is very good too. The beer wasn't exceptional but if the weather is hot, it'll be appreciated.
Certainly a place to visit if you're around the...
