Located in jungle our trip started by bus 95 mins then 4 engine turbo boat 35mins. A route was set up for tourist with part cobbled stones in concrete and steps up every 2 paces. It then passes museum and rest area for WC. Path changes to gravel and the odd protruding tree root and rock. Not suitable for wheelchairs. Partly covered by tree canopy once reaching first structure open space has been cleared to accommodate the visiting tourist all have their own official guide informing of history. Very impressive structure and carving of the ancient Mayans.

If you interested in Maya culture then this place is a must. There are over 800 temples in Lamanai and this one is one of the most impressive. There were not many tourists in this day in February. We booked a tour in Orange Walk, which cost 90 Belize Dollars per person. One the way to the Maya city, you have a boat trip of one hour where you can see a lot of wildlife, like birds and maybe even crocodiles.

We took a 1 hour bus ride from our cruise ship. Then there was about a 25 min boat ride to reach the ruins. Restrooms are available at the entrance. Sunblock and bug spray is highly recommended. There were many large mosquito flying around us the whole time. Long pants are recommended. We saw 3 different temples but only 1 we were able to climb. It was also a hot and humid day.

Just travelling the fresh water ride to this site was beautiful. Seeing the temple that was excavated that took 5 years to uncover was amazing as well as the 20foot leaves on the mangrove trees heading toward temple. One wonderful highlight was seeing the Holler monkeys overhead with a little baby, and hearing the holler they make. Very loud and scary at first, until the guides explained they do this as a territorial call. Loved seeing these beautiful...
