The Masterworks (Museum of Bermuda Art) is primarily an art gallery related to Bermuda. It usually has one or two exhibitions on specific themes. Every two years local artists can enter Chairman price (fortunate for small island with so many great artists!) with excellent exposition and opportunity to sell their art works. The art usually includes paintings, photos, sculptures, movies, etc. There is a small gift shop with a room where local art products can be bought. You also can stop for coffee and light meal & sweets at Homer's Café (or whatever is the name of a café). Surrounding Masterworks is the lovely Bermuda Botanical Gardens. Masterworks is run for over a three decades by Tom Butterfield, with friendly and competent stuff, creating Bermuda Hidden Gem, so different from pink sand and turquoise oceanv(even more colorful). All exhibit openings are elegant and interesting. All art happening - revolving and refreshing! The Masterworks offer art classes for adults and children (especially afternoon program during the school year and art camps during the school breaks). My kids enjoyed art from age two on Art Tots classes and now can talk about Bermuda masters for hours, mention only the few : Winslow Homer, Georgia O'Keeffe, Charles Demuth, Jack Bush and Albert Gleizes (local and visiting artists, contemporary and from the past)! Highly recommended and inspirational...
Read moreAlright, so I didn't actually go into the museum, as I had a nine month old baby with me who was overdue for a bottle and nap. However, I spent several minutes changing my daughter in the bathroom and then poking around the cafe and gift shop while waiting for the taxi to take my screaming offspring back to the hotel. In this brief glimpse, I feel like I actually got a pretty good feel for the art exhibits available at the museum (since they were represented in various forms in the gift shop) and for the nature of the organization more generally. The volunteers were incredibly friendly, tolerant, and enthusiastic about the organization. There were several pieces of news on display in the entryway that conveyed the museum has extensive community outreach programs and a diverse donor base. The art was beautiful, with a focus on Bermuda's landscape and people without coming across as clichéd or touristy. I particularly liked the "People of Bermuda" exhibit, which presented portraits of individuals who have contributed to Bermuda - ranging from premiers to a retired man who takes it upon himself to greet commuters every morning. So, in brief, I highly recommend this museum and organization, and will actually go there the next time I...
