Monumento a la Virgen del Socavon — Attraction in Municipio Oruro

The Monument to the Virgin of Socavon also called Virgen de la Candelaria is the highest religious sculpture in the world, located at 3,845 m.a.s.l. in the flatlands of Oruro, Bolivia. The large sculpture of the Virgin of the Socavon weighs around 1,500 tons, has eight internal floors, and to build it around 1.5 million dollars were invested.

El Monumento a la Virgen del Socavón o Virgen de la Candelaria se erige majestuosamente en el cerro Santa Bárbara, en la ciudad de Oruro, Bolivia. Inaugurada el 1 de febrero de 2013, esta imponente escultura con una altura total de 45,4 metros.

La corona de la Virgen, elaborada en placas de aluminio y reforzada con una estructura interior de fierro reticulado, pesa 500 kilos y mide 4,80 metros de altura con un diámetro de 4 metros. Adornada con incrustaciones de cristal fabricadas en resina, reproduce fielmente la imagen que se venera en el Santuario.

En su cúspide, el monumento está equipado con un pararrayos y sistema de iluminación de seguridad, garantizando su visibilidad incluso desde aviones y helicópteros que surcan los cielos. Esta colosal escultura, con un peso de 1.500 toneladas y ocho pisos internos, representa una obra de ingeniería y devoción sin precedentes, es un testimonio del fervor y la fé del pueblo boliviano.
