December 2024 (Booked hike though tripadvisor / Rodrigo Indio Tours) Stand out experience of 16 days in Rio - highly recommended if you want to get away into the peace of Tijuca forest, challenge yourself a bit and get the most rewarding view - with plenty of photo opportunity. The hike is uphill via steps, forest path and minor scrambles via natural and man made hand-holds. It's moderately challenging and there is a small climb just before the summit - with a view next to none in the area. I was glad for good shoes + backpack and lots of water+snacks.
Rodrigo was an excellent guide adding context to the encounters with flora and fauna, we saw jackfruit trees, monkeys etc. What was more impressive was his ability to gently encourage members of our group and create a safe space for continuing onwards even if it felt challenging to them. He shared how to tackle some of the trickier bits and we all cheered on each other in the end as we made it though the various stages of the climb up and ended up an awesome experience richer - with photos kindly provided by Rodrigo to tell the story.
I've done a bit of solo hiking in Tijuca but for this one I was really happy to have Rodrigo along as I felt more relaxed and able to enjoy the forest, hike and views. - it wouldn't have been the same without him. Book this if you're in Rio and remotely interested in walking, forest and...
I love hiking, it's one of the things I love Rio for, it has so many places to hike, not to mention the views that are incredible. This one especially is special because of the degree of difficulty it has, I loved doing it. I recommend it for lovers of hiking, this one it is a little more demanding, I saw things that I did not like people leaving their garbage in the surroundings, I think that the least we should do to prevent these natural places from dying is to respect the spaces, not leaving garbage for example, my humble opinion, the other thing I don't like is that there are people who are dedicated to "helping" those who They cannot climb on their own with a harness and ropes, they occupy the spaces that those who are used to doing on their own, preventing the passage of others, because they believe that the space belongs to them, in addition to that, they are rude. believing that we do not speak Portuguese, making racist and xenophobic comments, you are locals, I understand, but I do not understand why they want to appropriate spaces that are free to the public, Rio lives on tourism, like many other cities in the world, let's not let something so nice as respect and education, because some of us do not want to pay exorbitant amounts for the use of a rope, not all of us who travel are on an infinite budget, I love Rio and I have friends from Rio. I know that in all parts of the world there are people like this unfortunately.
Read moreWhat an amazing hiking trip. It is a very steep hike and a very interesting hike. Most of it is covered under the shade but when its not, it is intense sunlight. Bring your sunscreen and mosquito repellent.
Me and my friend used Nattrip and Daniel was our guide. Though a lot of people were going up their without a guide, I do recommend a guide. There is a portion where you have to climb the rock and without safety gear, its just a needless risk. Also, coming down is probably more challenging. Just one slip or twist or a lose rock and that would be the end of that trip. Not really a badge of honour to fall and hurt your self on a beginners rock climbing, accidents happen. And Daniel was awesome company too.
I would say the entire trip will take six hours including about an hour to spend at the top. It's a beautiful view from up there. Pictures just don't do justice. I gained about 300 fleets of stairs using my Fitbit.
Plenty of places to make a stop and enjoy the view. If you are lucky, might even see some wildlife. Definitely better to go on a weekday than the weekend. It is very popular site and there will be plenty of people. Bring plenty of water and enjoy the day.
