Interesting place to visit! I bit quirky but cool collection and I love how history is preserved in this way. Of course there are plenty beautiful landmarks to visit in this city but I would highly recommend to dive into this part of Sofia's history too. As others have remarked as well, the information comes in English too but it is not very extensive. Probably good to read up a little in advance or better still take the communist tour in the city centre too (perhaps do that first). They make for an excellent combination. PS The entrance is a bit hidden. When I got there the barrier was down (I think for cars only?). You just pass that and walk across the parking lot straight into the garden (you can see the infamous red glass star from the entrance). On your left you will find the little museum that comes with it, you can buy your...

An easy-to-miss, easy-to-misinterpret line on the website was the only notifier that the main museum was in fact closed for a change of exhibitions. We didn't learn this until we concluded a 20-minute walk of the statuary garden that was, admittedly, free.

It's therefore difficult for me to tell you much more or give a fair review. My understanding is that shortly after our holiday, the exhibition re-opened.

This being clearer on the website would have saved us a journey. Had that journey been any longer than the quick metro trip that it was, we would have been annoyed. As it is, we chalked it up as an enjoyable morning walk.

If we're ever in Sofia again, we'd like to try another visit and update this review. Check that website carefully before you...

This was one of the highlights of my trip to Bulgaria! The concept is simple and so effective - the garden area of a government building is now home to many socialist statues. To walk among them is a unique experience, especially if you come from somewhere (like me) where statues are rarely so monumental. Make sure you watch the propaganda video in the gift shop, it’s very interesting and at times surreal. Especially when you go outside to see some of the monuments that you just saw in the video, in front of you. When I was there, there was also a poster exhibition of graphic design along socialist themes and this was really enjoyable too. A must visit. Head down the hill from the metro cross the street, then walk a bit and look out fo the red star in the distance.

Really liked the museum. Especially if you’re into socialist sculptures, which are always exceptional despite the controversial history. the garden is amazing, n contrary to some other comments, I love the grass etc. is unkept (even if it’s not purposefully). It makes it feel so strong and symbolic, n also not on purpose but the combination of grotesque capitalist bank glass structures newly built combined with the communist housing complex around the garden it really put it all in perspective. The exhibition of pictures was small n it could really need some background explanation for the works, but nonetheless strong. All in all worth all the money. It is also very cheap. Truly an underrated museum. The staff was also very nice.

Go back in time and see where all the old communist statues that used to dot plinths all over Bulgaria now reside. Quick walk from G.M.Dimitrov station. You will see the statues at the back of a government building. The friendly guard will save you through and you buy tickets at the Video too, where you can also watch a long video on communist Bulgaria (10 mins should be enough). Then wander through the rows of statues. Some good examples of Lenin in particular. Don't miss the Art exhibition on the side up the steps. Gifts to the Bulgarian leaders from other communist nations including some excellent Cuban paintings and some utterly bizarre art from other countries. Well worth 15 minutes and the toilets are here too.
