This was a lovely, peaceful and scenic 1 hour paddle. I was a bit nervous going on my own but needn't have been.

It took me about an hour. I went down a few short wrong "paths" but ultimately it is a loop so you can't get lost.

There was a little rubbish along the way, which is often the case in waterways, but it was minimal. There are guesthouses etc around the loop on some places, but this didn't ruin the experience for me.

TIP - you can get here by yourself and hire a kayak from a few different places nearby.

I rented a bike from the Tourist Information place on the river, next to a bridge in the heart of Kampot. I think they charge $1.50 for the day! It took me around 20ish mins to ride there- only one straight road so no getting lost.

I didn't reach the places I was told rent kayaks. I stopped before them and rented a 1 person kayak from a place called Bopha Prey for US$5.It was next door to the Hideaway Guest House and bar, which I had a drink at after my green cathedral kayak adventure. With the kayak they gave me a waterproof bag for my phone with their mobile phone number on it in... handy in case I ran into any issues, which I didn't.

I only past 1 other 2 person kayak and a few local ladies collecting lotus flowers during my paddle. But when I returned there was a roudy group of young people taking off, so glad I...

Went for a kayak round here today. Based on the photos, was really looking forward to a leisurely paddle through this spot.

Credit where it is due, there is a section of this which is very scenic but is on the wider section of the river trail. This was the only enjoyable segment.

Much of the overgrowth looks to have been cut, which if there is genuine reason(s) for them to be cut (disease etc) that makes sense. However, the sheer volume of rubbish floating in the water, was putrid.

Having been in the Mekong earlier in my trip, this was a complete contrast to the Mekong. It was less Green Cathedral and more Rubbish river.

Tick it off as an experience, but it ruined the experience in my opinion, which is...

Beautiful nature. I went up to one of the surrounding hotels and rented a Kayak for 5$ for 2 hours. Super calming to just be on the water sailing through the surroundings. But as many have commented previously - unfortunately there really is a lot of plastic swimming around in these waters. I was hoping I could go for a quick dip but the water was so disgusting - I wouldn’t dare. So sad to see this beautiful place...

Scenery was great - leafy and good for photos BUT the waterway is absolutely disgusting. The water stank - its like kayaking in 1/2 a sewerage cesspit. With all the discarded plastic bags and water bottles, it shows how you can trash the environment. It needs to be cleaned up. Go for the photos but keep your hands and feet out of the water
