The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre offers a profound and moving experience that delves into the tragic events of the Frank Slide — a colossal rockslide that forever changed the mining town of Frank. This center provides a comprehensive exploration of the Turtle Mountain formation, the history surrounding the disaster, and the emotional survivor stories that have shaped the region.

By delving into the natural forces at play, visitors gain a deeper understanding of the catastrophic event that unfolded. The exhibits provide valuable insights into the formation's features and the factors that contributed to the devastating rockslide.

One of the most poignant aspects of the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre is its emphasis on survivor stories. These personal accounts offer a human perspective on the tragedy, providing a sense of the impact it had on the individuals and families affected.

Beyond the Frank Slide, the center also covers the history of the Hillcrest Mine. Learning about the hardships faced by the miners and the heartbreaking loss of fathers leaves a lasting impression. It is a somber reminder of the sacrifices made by those who worked in dangerous conditions to support their families.

I highly recommend vitiating this place and watching the two films offered by the Interpretive...

My visit to Frank Slide was a profoundly moving experience. This historical site, marking the tragic landslide of 1903, offers a unique combination of natural beauty and a poignant reminder of the past. The landscape, dominated by the massive boulders that once tumbled down Turtle Mountain, creates a stark and powerful scenery.

The interpretive center does an excellent job of recounting the events of the slide, providing insightful and educational information about this significant event in Canadian history. The exhibits are well-organized and engaging, suitable for visitors of all ages.

Walking through the site, the trails are well-maintained and offer various viewpoints to observe and reflect on the magnitude of the landslide. Signage along the way is informative, enhancing the understanding of the site's historical context.

Accessibility is well-considered, with clear paths and viewpoints that are easily navigable. It makes the site a great option for families and individuals of varying mobility levels.

For future visitors, I recommend setting aside enough time to fully explore the interpretive center and the trails. It's a unique educational experience where you can immerse yourself in a significant piece of nature's power...

We've been several times to the Interpretative Center, but always come out with new information or new experiences. Here are some we did this visit: Definitely hike the trail. It is 1,500m of some pretty cool sights. The first half (about 700m) is all through rock that was put there by the slide and is so cool to see the magnitude of rocks that slid down that mountain. The second half is through a forest and is much more of a hike. Several steep areas will challenge the less able bodied. It's very worth it though to go through the change in landscape. We stayed for both video presentations. We haven't watched both before, and it was worth it to see both view points. We also asked for information from the very helpful staff. There was an older gentleman, who's been there every time we've been there, who was particularly helpful and FULL of information. Last thing? They've started handing out really neat comics to the kids as they leave. These are excellent and entertaining.

Overall, we always enjoy our visits. Highly recommend going. Especially on a slower, mid-week, morning visit. Very child friendly, and family oriented. Always very clean, and...

The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre offers an incredibly moving and educational look into one of Canada’s most dramatic natural disasters. From the moment you step in, you’re surrounded by breathtaking views of Turtle Mountain and the massive rockslide that buried the town of Frank in 1903. The exhibits are immersive and well-curated. The life-size replica of “Black Beauty,” the Tyrannosaurus skull, was a fascinating surprise that adds a deeper historical layer to the visit. The indoor simulations of the disaster, with collapsed structures and interactive displays, truly help you understand the magnitude of what happened here. Outside, the surrounding trails and viewpoints give you a panoramic look at the scale of the landslide. The blend of natural beauty and historic weight is humbling. The views of the rubble field and surrounding mountains are stunning—especially under a dramatic sky like we had. Great for families, history buffs, or anyone exploring the Crowsnest Pass. Easily one of Alberta’s most memorable historic sites.
