Appalling customer service. Booked 2 hour tubing experience, very busy so all tubes were taken, none available for those waiting. They allowed people to come down slopes and join the queue again without dropping their tubes to allow people waiting to have a turn. After 20 mins I went to ticket desk to tell them we can’t get a tube to go on the slopes. They said they’ll ask people to drop tubes. They would not be extending time even though we couldn’t do the activity we’d paid for because they didn’t have enough tubes for everyone booked on. It’s not unreasonable for me to ask for extra time when you are physically unable to do the activity, because there aren’t tubes available to use and you can’t tube without a tube! Again when I went back to tubing, no one was dropping their tubes even though they’d said at guest services they would be asked to. They weren’t being asked!

I understand it was a busy weekend but if this is the case where it’s busy and all the tubes are in use, it should be policy to have someone waiting at the bottom to ask people to drop their tubes or pass along to those waiting. It’s extremely unfair to expect people to pay for an experience that they are unable to do because you don’t have enough equipment and aren’t going to manage the busy periods effectively. It’s not a cheap activity. Especially when you bring a large family. No one minds waiting but when you are watching people going round and round again instead of passing their tube on to those waiting, it isn’t fair! After speaking to four staff members all saying they wouldn’t extend the time (after our family missing out on 40 mins) the customers around me in the queue heard the conversation and were saying how unfair it was and started passing on their tubes to us. Hearing the other customers agreeing with me, they then extended the time. I can’t believe I had to kick up a big fuss. It shouldn’t be like that! Will never return to this resort. Poorly managed in busy periods. Would...

Nakiska offers a fairly poor skiing experience for individuals and families. For individuals, the runs are extremely limited and snow quality is poor; significant portions of the hill are not filled in for the majority of the year, and alternating race prepping means frequent icy conditions. For families and people new to the sport, on the easier runs a significant portion of people are extremely reckless and pose a danger to themselves and others with alarming frequency. I can't image trying to learn skiing here, as the chances of being run in to is quite high, and people seem to regularly ski out of control. There are no patrollers enforcing slow areas. Due to the smaller size of the hill, the runs are very crowded during busy season and navigating between people on easy runs can be quite the challenge.

If you ever need to deal with customer service, you'll usually be redirected to call RCR and it's a horrendous experience.

In my case, after being redirected 3 times, I was told they had records that they sent out a letter months ago with physical vouchers, and had fulfilled their obligations because of it; despite having never received the letter, and the service not being available at the hill for at least 1/4 the season. Details of ski camps are not listed properly on their website. For instance, if you purchase a 12 week ski camp, it's actually 2x 6 week camps, so the times are randomly changed, and if you can't make those times (you're informed 6 weeks in), the refund is a smaller portion instead of half the...

Let's start with the good. Easy access off the highway, lots of parking and a large facility with multiple chair lifts. Lodges and facilities were clean and we had no issues with the staff.

The experience itself was another thing entirely. It was extremely cold the night before and apparently caused issues with their chairlifts. These issues were not noted on the website as closed and the front desk staff assured us they were working on it when we got there.

Turns out only one chair lift (bronze) that serviced the green area was open all day. That chair lift barely worked, it stalled almost everytime I was on it. Also, having skiers and boarders of all skill levels going to one area was a disaster. How do you advertise and open an Olympic caliber resort yet only have one working chairlift? All the staff we talked to aside from the front desk seemed to think they were not prepared to open the other lifts so they certainly should have considered closing.

Of course that did not stop them from charging our lift tickets and giving us the buyer beware speech. We got a small discount on a ticket if we return for our troubles.

And if you are a beginner skier do not come here. The bunny area is small and set up for small children. The green chair lift dumps you on top of a hill with steep slopes off it. If you are not experienced you will have a bad time.

Next time don't open or don't charge people full price when the majority of your resort is inoperable. The staff did their best but management put them in a...

If you can get the summer pass deal ($379) it’s worth coming out here in the mornings for a few hours. There are some enjoyable runs and when it does snow, there’s fun to be had. Note that aside from Saturday/Sunday, not all lifts start up at 9:00a sharp and their social media isn’t active enough to ensure you’re informed about which ones will be open or the general snow conditions so you’re left taking a guess when you drive out. So, if you’re only buying day passes (not season passes) then I’d suggest driving a little further down the road. Also of note, this is very much a ski racing hill. When conditions are good the racers only take up 1-2 runs and only about a 1/4 of those runs but if there isn’t much open, like the 2022-23 ski season where they received ~200cms, there’s just not that much to ski that isn’t taken up by racers. And unlike Lake Louise who handle this the right way, all skiers can store their bags inside the lodge at Nakiska, which makes for some very annoying table searches around lunch time. In terms of cleanliness, it’s severely lacking. The washrooms in the main lodge do not appear to be cleaned daily and the mid-mountain lodge toilets might be cleaned once a week. Overflowing feminine product disposal in the ladies and crusty urinals in the men’s, make the experience less than ideal.

Nakiska is super close to Calgary. Probably the closest mountain you can access (COP doesn't count). And if you can hit it on the right day, it can be an amazing place. But, the right day almost never happens. In 4 years of skiing here, I have only ever had 2 powder days. This obvioustly isn't the management's fault, but it does really detract from the experience. Nakiska is known for ice. Especially the run underneath the Silver chair, and about half of all the Gold chair runs. Nakiska doesn't operate the Olympic chair at all on weekdays. Only weekends. This makes it frustrating, as an out of base option for the hill is often not operational. My food experiences here have been okay - nothing to write home about, but not terrible. The lodge is fine, though it could definitely use more seating (good luck getting a table on a weekend). Overall, Nakiska is Meh. If you can get a cheap pass, it's not a bad hill to come to on a couple quiet midweek days. Maybe you'll strike gold and hit it on a powder day. But for everything else, it's not a great hill. Definitely recommend driving a bit further to Sunshine or Louise, or else better BC hills. And don't come here on a weekend at any cost. Meh.
