A totally hidden gem and attraction in Canmore (as in really literally hidden at the back of an off leash dog park!).
We only came to know about the lake thru the street signs we saw along the road, on our way to Grassi Lake.
We wanted to come this lake because we wanted to go for a picnic, once we have finished our hiking at Grassi Lake.
So using Google Maps, we tried locating the lake but instead it brought us to an upscale residential area, with no signs of any lake (we tried exploring at the back of the trees, then we could see a glimpse of a lake in the distance but we just did not know how to get there). It was only when we put in “Quarry Lake Parking” in Google Maps that it brought us to a parking area where only an off leash park was visible.
Although there is a sign outside (before we get into the parking lot) that says, “Quarry Park Lake”, once you get into parking you would not see any lake)
It is a good lake for bathing even with small kids because there is a shallow and safe portion at the northern part of the lake. When we went there yesterday, there were lots of kid playing both in the water and sand. It is also good for boating for whole families because it is just a small lake. And an added bonus, the mountain views are...
Read moreBeautiful open valley park space right at the edge of Canmore. Dirt and gravel trails are clear and easy followed, just head towards the 3 Sisters (East) from the parking lot. Good for families with strollers, wagons, sleds, whatever you need to bring with you. This is PACKED in good Spring weather, even more so in the Summer with swimmers and bbq/picnickers. Great spot to cool down with the kids on a hot Summer day with some nice shallow entry points. Not quiet at all most weekends in Summer, if some peace and quiet what you're seeking you will want to try elsewhere. Lake gets alittle muddy around shore but still swimmable. A swing rope is also hung in the area, you can give it a try of you...
Read moreThe lake looks soooo much larger in photos, this is just a small man-made pond with a man-made park around it.
Everything about this park is manicured to look nice while trying to blend into the surrounding nature but it is obvious this isn't the natural pond that once was here. The pond itself is about the same size as the parking lot.
Dogs are NOT permitted on any trails around the pond or near the pond. There is a small dog friendly pond that is accessible from the same parking lot.
Trail maps are excellent at the trailhead but the maps after that point are completely useless. Best to take a photo of the initial map if you need guidance...
