Alert Bay Visitor Centre — Attraction in Alert Bay

Be sure to stop here first when you visit Alert Bay. We weren't able to go inside because of covid, but the host there stands at the door and gives all visitors a super helpful package of info booklets that explain the history of Alert Bay, the ecological park, the U'mista Cultural Centre, and all the totem poles spread across the island. These booklets also had helpful maps that marked points of interest. The host also did a five minute "elevator speech" about the history of the island that really helped us get our bearings. If you take the ferry and turn right you’ll come across the Visitor Centre. Very friendly and helpful lady at the front desk. She was chatting about her childhood on the island and gave us a lot of tips on how to spend the day. The centre also had some nice free postcards and maps. There are wonderful materials available explaining all the fabulous features and historical landmarks around town. Our trip was too short this time around, but we will be back!...
