Bayside Grill and Pizza — Restaurant in Alert Bay

First, I'd like to say the couple running the place seem very nice and we don't like writing bad reviews. That said, maybe they've lost their love for the business. We should have paid attention to some of the previous reviews but there were enough to get the restaurant 4.3 stars so we ignored the poor ones. Our lunch was an experience we'd like never to relive. Yes, it was edible, greasy, tasteless, bland, uninspired and not worth the calories for sure. Worse was the cleanliness of the place. The floor throughout the eating area was sticky and likely hadn't been mopped in ages. The washroom was on another level of filth entirely. Someone had diarrhea in there in the last century and it was left on the walls to dry into a form of wallpaper. The toilet seat was encrusted with ages of excrement. The soap dispenser was empty along with the paper towel dispenser and the floor hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. This filth was definitely not fresh. The tandoori chicken is misrepresented. It’s not the usual dish by definition baked in a tandoori oven but done with a tandoori spice in a massala sauce. So its no different from their butter chicken and not the unsauced alternative promised. Bad service too. We were the first couple in but the fifth served as our order was given another couple. Two ladies behind us left because of the delay in having their order taken. So the misrepresented dish on top of the 45 minute delay did not make for a pleasant dinner out. The reviews of this place are misleading as it has clearly changed hands since 2022. We stopped for lunch here as there was no other option in Alert Bay open at 11am. There is no longer an Indian menu (curry etc) as suggested in some reviews. There is no breakfast menu. On our visit it was staffed by one chef and one server front-of-house. The food is very basic greasy-diner quality and the service is adequate. The washrooms are borderline unacceptable - let’s just say the public washrooms at the ferry terminal were cleaner… In summary, a barely adequate pit-stop for the desperately hungry. But next time we’ll bring our own food over on the ferry… avoid...
